Meaursing propellers

Question

How am i supposed to meaurse my prop to find out what size it is? I have an 86 50HP merc and don't know if its a 12x17 or a 14x16?

I am pretty sure yours is a 12" diameter with 17" pitch, the 14" diameter are huge props for big motors or inboards (my Searay 26ft has one).
To find out diameter just measure from outside of blade to center, then double it, or if you have a way to beasure from blade to blade, you'll get it.
Pitch is a little tough.

Should have the diameter and pitch stamped on the prop. You may have to remove the prop nut to do so.
