So does the signing of Morales help us or?

I'm not sure about this one. Granted getting rid of Kubel can't hurt as he was hitting like .224 and .158 since April. But I guess they are hoping for a bunch of power from Morales, so we will have to see.

Personally I am bummed about letting Kubel go... One of my favorite all time Twins and just a couple years removed from basically an MVP type season with the D'Backs. He looked good the first handful of games, but as a platoon outfielder his numbers didn't support keeping him on any more I guess.

As far as Morales goes, heck yeah that was a great move. I'm just surprised our tight owner finally opened the checkbook to add a piece before it's too late. Nobody is running away with this division, so to add a switch hitting power threat off the bench could be a big move for us. I can think of about 15 games without digging too deep where one more double or a HR along the way would have been the difference between a win and a loss. If we even got a third of those opportunities to fall our way we'd be tied for first. I am a big fan of the move. I HATED playing against KM!

pikestabber,

I agree with all but one point. He wont be coming off the bench. He will be the full time DH from what I have read. The only negative here is that Josmil Pinto doesnt see as many at bats with him now on the team.

I think it's a good move. It shows they are at least making an a

effort to stay in the race. I suppose if they are out of even a wild card spot at the end of July they could get something in a trade if he is hitting and driving in runs.

My mistake, yes, our full-time DH. And I agree that this will negatively impact Pinto. Either Pinto would have to take ABs from Suzuki by starting more often, which is crazy because of how good Suzuki has been for us, or maybe they even send Pinto down to play everyday? Not sure what the move will be here, but it's not a terrible problem to have!

Trying to catch lightening in a bottle with another broken down "veteran".

I hope this turns into a Shannon Stewart type signing, but I'm not holding my breath. Spend some money on pitching and I'll stand up and take notice.

+1. Looks like he is in terrible shape (not that he was ever in great shape) hopefully doesn't tear a hammy running to first base.

Well I think most of his teammates fell on him to help in that foot breaking....

Good to see them spend some money. They seem to have an awful lot of dh type players. Willinhham, Arcia and now Morales. I know two of those are outfielders but weak defensively.

Nice start so far for Morales.

3 More hits today and he is batting .462 Wow!! And he is supposed to be out of shape and rusty?

I have no issue with Morales if we had a pitching staff that did not include DeDuno and Pelfrey. If all we get is enough spent for Morales I would have much rather seen 1 better pitcher signed.

Morales can help with hitting but we have a couple huge holes in our pitching staff and the bullpen will wear out with a few of these starting pitchers.

We will never go anywhere with the pitching we have, this year or next. I am hoping that Pohland has a few young studs in the minors as there are few good pitchers out there and they cost alot.

Pelfrey hasn't been part of it for some time now and may be done for the year. I don't know what's going on with Deduno the last couple of times, he's supposed to have unhittable stuff but if he doesn't get it together soon it may be time for Trevor May or maybe Meyer.

we have very good pitchers in the minors now, many doing outstanding. we may see one or too very soon I think.

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st
