Never mind, re-read it and saw walleye. Any size to them?

Posted

I've seen a wide variety of sizes, a lot are under 14", but we've still caught enough keepers for a fish fry and threw back a few over 20".

We were on Wabedo last week and had pretty good luck in the evening(when the weather would cooperate) in 20' on night crawler rigs. They were various sizes but we did release several 20"-25"

Which bay ere you fishing PL?

Just got back yesterday from a week at Little Boy with the family. We found walleyes anywhere from 8-16 feet biting on leeches under slip bobbers or on Lindy rigs. We caught plenty of walleyes, but the highlight of the trip was that 2 nieces and a nephew (whose parents do not fish) all caught their first ever walleyes. Allie is 11 and caught a couple 19" walleyes, Alex is 9 and caught a little 12 incher and Emily at age 6 caught a 17". I caught the biggest fish of the trip at about 26" pictured below.

The middle basin past the Hayfields mostly, but we also fished some on the Ponderosa bar.

Thanks for the info. Taking a buddy and his 12 yr old boy up this weekend. I'm not much of a walleye guy. Just hoping to get the kids some bites on live bait. Panfish, northern, bass or walleye. Just something to bend the rod. I think best bet is 12-18' on live bait.

Does anyone know if the Longville area sustained any damage from the storm last night/this morning? It looks like there are some reports of power outages. It looks like Nisswa had quite a few trees knocked down.

Yes there was, my parents pontoon was moved 30ft while up on sea legs. The neighbor's dock was drug over 10ft or so with the pontoon connected to the end. Many trees down, one of which snapped a power line on the north side of LB. Power is still out.

Well, that doesn't sound good. We already have a couple of trees to cut up and don't really need any more firewood. Is it just power to the North end of Little Boy? I'm on the SW side off 54. I wasn't planning on going up until next Tuesday as I just spent a long weekend up there.

Just got a text from my Mom and they said lots of high winds and lightning, but they were ok. Few limbs down. They are on the SW side as well if that helps?

That thunderstorm went just north of LB. I was up there at the time and the wind blew for a bit on the south end of the lake but that was about it. Fishing was good for a couple of days and then pretty poor after the cold front went through and started to pick up again on Monday night. Surprised that there have not been any reports since then.... Has the summer doldrums hit or just no one posting?

Seems like the doldrums have hit. Even pan fishing is very slow! Hoping someone can say otherwise.

I did well last weekend on crappies, bass and pike. The weekend before was slow - we will see what happens this weekend.

I was up last weekend to the area. I thought panfish were on fire for the most part. No bobber. Just pitch 1/16 oz jig with 2" twister and a piece of crawler to seal the deal. Vertical right over the side of the boat was great for me on sunfish and short cast and a little bigger presentation for crappies.

The family has been up for the last week and a half. While I recover from torn ankle ligaments they were out fishing almost continuously. Pike and bass were their targets for the most part and usually cooperated to varying degrees with all the goofy weather. From ghastly warm and humid to storms to late fall patterns. Pan fish appeared to be a very reluctant biters. Anxious to see what others have seen this past week....

Pretty much the same here. Did ok on Bass and caught many small Northerns in the process. I talked to a few people on Little Boy that said Walleye fishing was really slow. Little Boy didn't seem too busy this past weekend considering that it was a holiday weekend.

Activity on the lakes appears to be picking up as far as the number of boats. Must be due to the upcoming muskie tournament.

Fyi... Little Boy Resort has a webcam on their web page. Should be helpful in seeing when the ice is going out. The cam points out to the bay that the resort is on.

With all the torrential downpours, monstrous temp dives into the frozen zone and a long "Honey-Do" list I haven't hardly been out. Wondering if anyone has been fishing either of these two lakes and what they are seeing whether it is walleyes, bass, panfish or anything. I have my daughter and granddaughter up and would like to get them on fish.
