Gary Thorne announcing games this is epic. Only way it would be better is if it were Doc Emeric.

I know, its the best to listen to.

Any body know why Lou's grandson isn't going to play for the gophers?

I am sure he just wants to isolate himself from any controversy because of grandpa. Same thing happened with Louie he said he would play for gophers but then all this negative nellies said he was only given scholarship because of who he "was". Pretty lame.

I would love to see Wolff in maroon and gold. That guy is a beast.

I think we have seen enough "Names" on the Gophers and I think Lucia knows it. You saw a very fortunate outcome for this Nanne tonight. the fact is the entire Edina team is made up of extremely good hockey players. Nanne got 4 goals tonight but he had some very good luck.

Not sad about him going to Ohio State. Now Yon from Roseau? I have a problem with. Yes I would like to see Wolf a Gopher for sure.

Yon is impressive for sure. 14 shots in in game? Crazy. I didn't see much of that game though.

I've watched most games so far. Yon did look impressive. He is very quick and has a nice shot. Never missed the net. He was dangerous on every shift.

Looking forward to the games today.

I just pulled up the site that will Stream the games and they have a fee this year. Is that something new? I guess $5 for the day is cheap. I usually work from home and watch, but came to the office today.

Just read that this years broadcast on 45 will be in HD. Finally! That will be awesome.

Yep, they did the same thing for the wrestling tourny.

I was more than happy to pay the $5 just to get the coverage.

This year, with the added $5 fee for the wresting they had 4 camera's instead of the one last year and the year before so one could watch any match in any class they choosed too. Not that way before the added fee.

How was the Hermantown presser? Hopefully not another whine fest but not holding my breath.

He was still crying about Breck and his fifth straight loss in the championship game.

Basically said he felt better losing to East Grand Forks even though they have players from North Dakota and surrounding communities.

Good news is the Buffalo Bills are now off the hook. grin

Nice spin Piper, maybe you need to watch it again.

A guy gets up in front of a camera and speaks his opinion and he's hung out to dry.

And the ones hanging him out sit behind a monitor and a keyboard.

If you've ever been to the Banquet, Plante is the most interesting speaker there, the rest of the milk toast coaches put you to sleep.

He may the funniest most interesting guy in the world I have no Idea nor did I spin anything.

And I certainly wouldn't call it Hung out to dry .... LOL just an observation by some. Was the Buffalo Bills comment a bit much? grin

C@P from a reporter who was there not hiding behind his keyboard.: smile

Hermantown's coach, still found a way to whine about St Thomas Academy after today's loss.

“It just doesnt seem to be our deal,” said Plante, whose team lost to Breck in the 2010 title game and to St. Thomas Academy the previous three years.

“It feels a lot better losing to East Grand than anybody else we’ve lost to, I’ll tell you that,” Plante said. “They’re the same kind of program we are.”

They've been to 5 straight championship games and Hermantown is still the victim.

On a Side note who thinks you should be allowed to play in 5 STRAIGHT class A title games and still not move up to AA.?

I say NAY.

ya the Bills comment had me hanging from the high bridge.... wink

One would think a guy with 10K posts would be able to find the presser on his own....guess not, better to spin it. grin

So move Hermantown to AA I guess that's the answer, would that make all the southern teams happy? Where do we move Edina or Hill then, both have had success?

However fundamentally the programs are way different, Hermantown grooms and grows the homegrown kids, all 600 of them, just a bit shy of the what.... 2-3 thousand enrolled at most of the AA contenders this year.

Go Bills.....

So just above Roseau's numbers? smilewink

As I evolve in finding things on my own I came across something pertinent. Hermantown did win a class A state title in 07. So a state title and 5 runner ups here recently.

Great Program apparently.

So I retract the Bills comment. smile

I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
    • Brianf.
Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
    • smurfy
got mine done........for the cabin.....ready for summer festivities!!!!!!   there was still frost in the ground...........but good gawd are the lakes low!!!!!
    • CigarGuy
