Zone 172 Deer to Hunter Ratio

Southern half of zone 172 has estimates in the 21-26+ hunter per square mile by the DNR and that includes open swamps etc. so actually deer hunting woods it is much higher in parts of that area.

That area is hunted very hard in addition it is the area(far enough north) where winters start to hang on a little longer.

Why does it say "DRAFT" in large letters above the top of the map? Leaves the impression that it is not been reviewed and is subject to change. Not saying it is so, but makes me think of something a politician would pull out then can retract later when numbers are crunched.

It does stir up hunters emotions if that is the intent.

Hope they realize that managing deer is like driving an overloaded truck with worn out steering down a road. You are going to be wandering from shoulder to shoulder, with occasional trips into the ditch when things like winter, tuberculosis or cwd run into you.

You don't think that since this is a "paid advertisement" by the everyone should shoot a big rack QDMA people that maybe they have a bit of an agenda!

There have always been some zones that have had more hunters then Deer even so after this winter. Oh and don't forget to donate some funds to them because they are going to get you more and bigger Deer! What the heck is the MDHA and DNR doing then!

I think we should have more deer per square mile,but also realize in much of the deer range we have exceeded by many peoples opinion too many hunters. You get 20-26 deer hunters per sq. mile like area 172,probably even if we get the deer herd built back up,majority of hunters will have to be unsucessful each year.

I hope we get young people to go hunting,but to say we don't have enough hunters,in the woods that is completely wrong. They don't make anymore land we better protect what we got.

Look at your farm country,how many 40 acre plots of hunting land are not hunted? Habitat is the number one issue and hope that doesn't get lost in the discussion.

At present time,I believe the deer per sq. mile in this zone 172 is capable of a substantial increase.
