I spent some time in Grand Rapids, MN this past week and wow what a blast. Despite the frigid temperatures a few of us hit a couple different lakes chasing crappies and walleyes and managed to get a little of both! We got the crappies suspended over those deeper 25-40ft basins, although at times the fish were more congregated along the edges of those holes, say 15-25ft. We caught lots of smaller fish around that 8" range but mixed in a couple very nice crappies. Smaller plastic larva resembling jigs seemed to work best with no live bait.

We also got into a few walleyes out on lake Pokegama. The cold weather seemed to shut them off a little as we graphed fish but couldn't get a bite. We caught a few smaller walleyes that we pitched back, and I did lose one half way up that was going to be a dang nice fish and once again I chalked another one up on "the one that got away list." Pokegama seems to be filled with lots of those 10-12" walleyes, hopefully that year class stays strong and in another year or two those fish will be of bigger caliber. Well there's your report everyone, as for me it's back to Rainy Lake. Give us a call to go fishin! Thanks for tuning in.
