I plan on camping at one of the small campsites on Rainy for the opener. Our plan is to arrive early Friday morning and try to find a site. Does anyone have any input regarding the typical availability of sites? I know the opener will be busy but I'm hoping more people are staying in cabins, etc.

On the Ontario side, LaBelle's Birch Point Camp has campsites. They are located on NW Bay of Rainy Lake, north of Devlin, Ontario.

Hey Sherbear,

How are things with you? You got me looking forward to June at Labelle's!! Especially since this winter has been going on way to long, can't wait for June and hope to see you up there this year!

Might want to check this thread out: http://www.hotspotoutdoors.com/forum/ubb...ion#Post3188665

I did see that thread. It's not clear whether or not all the sites will need to be reserved. It's certainly not clear when the reservation system will be in affect. I guess I'll call the park service in a few weeks and try to get an update. I did call a few of the resorts on Rainy and they all have cabins available for the opener. That actually surprised me. Hopefully the ice is out.

Rainy Pro, when will you be there? We will be up in May after ice is out and then back to Illinois part of June for our granddaughter's birthday. Then back up north.

We will arrive June 13th and leave June 21st.

snagger,

There will be 14 campsites on Rainy that will be available to reserve (also 6 each on Kab and Namakan, and 4 on Sand point). Which sites they are, only the NPS knows, and they aren't saying yet.

They said that they will issue a press release with the "reservable" sites sometime this spring. They are shooting for the reservation system to be running in April. I believe the small campsites are going to be $16-20 per night.

I've never been up on opener so not sure how busy it is out in the park. Weather will most likely play a big part too.

14 spots?! That's quite a few. Man, I wish the park service would get their act in gear so people could make plans for the summer. My fear is that I'll miss the press release and the sites will be reserved. Then, I'll have to look for a cabin and by that time it may be too late.

It is  pretty shiny piece of equipment. I was able to purchase it on my scab job wages 😆 I don't think I'll update the electronics any time soon, 3 screens is enough?

Just another "Words matter"   Voting on school levy. This was posted on the School "education district" building door.  We had a nice cold walk all the way around the building! The arrow was added, after we educated them! 😒

Obviously this is more of a hot topic due to forward facing sonar. With that being said, I know people who have pulled crappies out of basins 40+ deep since the fl-8 and zercom flashers came out. That's over 30 years ago. I do think there's a push to ban these in MN and I could see them doing it here. They'll have to pay my livescope from my cold dead hands 😆 on days I can't catch a walleye jigging or rigging it's nice to turn it on and throw corks at individual fish

It wasn't just you, I was fishing west of you about an hour on Monday. Fished 8am-4pm, no fish, two keeper walleye and one small one from 4pm-630pm. Marked a lot of fish, they would come up to a jig and swim away. They were skittish to the dead stick too

I wonder like divers, if we let them decompress every 10' for 1/2hr. If that would help?  🤔  It would slow the bite down a bit!  🤭
