Battery Blanket for your car

Question

Posted

Any of you use one of these? I read that this cold weather will reduce cranking amps by 60%. I don't have a block heater on my civic or vue so thinking of buying battery blankets. Anyone use one?

not that specifically but I did have a battery mat on a truck I owned previously.

The block heater will make it easier to turn over, and warm up faster.

The battery mat will help increase the available current to turn your motor over.

I don't know if it was the fact that truck had both, but it always started when plugged in.

I had battery blankets on my diesel truck that had dual batteries. Even with two batteries, that big diesel needed all the juice to get started. You could definately tell when it was plugged in how much more pop the engine had at startup.

Make sure you check out reviews and quality if you're buying aftermarket. SOme are made poorly and you can wear through the cover and get a short or start a fire in the engine bay. They need to be inspected onec or twice a year just to make sure they are still good.

When I was living West of Grand Forks for a few years I used a battery blanket and block heater. Made a "Y" cable so both were plugged in at the same time. It never failed to start with that combo.
