Welcome Back!! Happy 2014!! Mother Nature has not been kind to us here on Winnie!! We are finally getting plowed roads out to the humps!! Just cut a new road last night to perch bar and another to the question mark. Working main lake structure!! We have been up against slush, minimal ice and heavy snow. We are currently seeing 15" of ice, with areas up to 20". Still slush off roads, bring the snowmobiles for best off road travel. We look forward to seeing you!!! Finding perch, northerns and walleyes in 14-16' of water. Using fatheads. Our sleepers are out on the ice and producing good numbers also!! Sorting of smaller perch, good action, bucket full by the end of the day, enough to fry up and some to bring home!!! Mention this HSO special and stay for $35/person/night at High Banks!!

All their plowed roads are good as long as you stay on them. Going off road there is some bad drifts out there. Was just there Thurs and Fri

Yes, you can access our roads. Good road system in place. We have a pressure ridge that we have been monitoring 1/2 mile out. Shifting daily. Please call before you come, to verify conditions.

Glad to here you guys are finally getting things going up there. To bad we can't make it up there this year. Going to miss talking to you. Hope the rest of the season treats you well.

Blizzard like conditions currently. Winds at 25-30 mph. Snowing with white out conditions. Despite the January deep freeze, we are still catching fish!! 218 246-2560 full-1903-41975-perch2.jpg

Looking to come up this weekend, Friday morning-Monday with a wheel house. What are the chances we can get a fresh plowed spot on decent fishing if we have a little cash for you?

Posted

High Banks will always plow you a spot. I just make sure to Tip well winkwink

Posted

Good to know, how is their road system? What areas do they plow to?

Posted

Pictures from High Banks are from my brothers trip with them.

Posted

I'm also planning on coming up with the portable. How far out is the plowed road? I was thinking about driving my car out assuming the landing is good. Thankyou!

Posted

Welcome to the Weekend!!! Yes!! Plowed roads are in good shape!! We are out to Big Island and north of Perch Bar to the Rock Pile!!! Perch are poppin'!! 18-22 feet of water!! Come on out to Winnie!! Access is $10/day and we'll get you set up with a map of our road system along with an updated fishing report and help point you in the right direction!!! Looking forward to seeing you!!!

Posted

Do you guys get much of a night bite up there for walleyes or do they slow down after dark along with the perch? Thanks.

Posted

Thanks for the report, looking forward to it!

Posted

Same here, be up Sunday!

Posted

We have never needed to fish after dark. Our Perch pictures from last weekend are posted earlier in the post. We caught them all day. Also several Walleyes and Northerns mixed in. Our best depths on the humps were 20-22 ft. They plowed a new road to left that starts about a mile out. Follow the pine bows about 4 miles out. I hope that Rick and Kim are nice and busy again this weekend, they deserve it after such a frustrating start to the season!!

got out by 9:00. stopped by the main lodge, paid the access fee, got a map of the road systems with some hotspots. awesome job on the roads, they were big and wide, and easy to drive on. setup in 20 ft of water but didn't get much action. we moved out to the rock pile around noon, what a difference! we never limited out but ended up with 15 nice perch and some decent northern. Thank you High Banks for a great experience!

looking to come up in late feb. to try for perch and maybe a few stink fish for the smoker. any reports of tulibees being caught this year.

Posted

Any reports from this weekend? We fished all over the place with the same results, small perch. Did manage a few jumbos for the bucket but it took a lot of work throwing small ones back. Finally settled on a evening spot on top of a hump and the perch moved out and the big marks moved in. 2 big fish lost before they came to the hole and that was it for action. Lots of lookers that would just sit under you and not move. Anyone do any good out there?

Posted

Fished the south shore break on 2/6-8 and did fairly well. As above, quite a bit of sorting but lots of nice sized fish mixed in. Those hunkered down in a house all day got very few, but if you were out moving around the holes would produce fish for a while then go cold. The secret was to keep moving. Fished 15 to 19 FOW for the numbers, deeper water produced almost nothing for me.

Eight guys (including those who sat in the portables) left with 187 perch and several pike for the trip.

Hydro- Our only keeper fish came from a deeper troff between 2 humps on the west side. What lures were working best? We tried a lot of different ones and had mixed results. We had debated a dead stick but never put one down, any luck on those? I'm coming back up again soon and would like a little advice since this was my first time on this lake. You can pm if you want and I'll answer anything you got

More Plowed Roads - north of Perch Bar to the Rock Pile and West and South out to the Big Island Area!! Many reports from the weekend were coming in slightly deeper in 22-27' of water!! Roads are in good shape!! Come on out and get in on the perch and walleye action!! We look forward to seeing you!! full-1903-42518-jumbo.jpg Wheel houses Welcome!! 218 246-2560 www.highbanks.com

Little Chief,

Lures that worked were a wide selection. My buddy used a tiny yellow jig and a plastic tail, (about 1 1/2" total) and the best lure for me was a small yellow jigging Rapala with a #6 single hook on the bottom. Tomorrow could be a totally different story. Good luck on your next trip.

Can you drive off road or would I need to bring a snowmobile

Posted

You can a little if you really watch for drifts, the snow is really hard packed so if you do get hung up it would be a but of a battle to get out. A sled or chains would be best. Snow depth ranged from 3"-12" and hard packed to soft with slush pockets still around

My son got paid back for a good deed he did several years ago. He found a couple of expensive items at a boat ramp and called me asking what he should do.   I told him to bring them home because I was afraid if someone else found them, they might keep them. It was winter and nobody was around. This was when Facebook wasn't really popular yet, I was on several sites like this. First thing we did was make a big sign and posted it at the boat launch, then I posted it on all the forums I was on. Long story short, we never found the owner, but we sure tried. I know to this day, if either one of us found something, we'd do our best to get it back to the rightful owner.

Yes, for sure.     A few years back, and unbeknownst to me, a piece of trim came off my sled while traveling over the lake.  A fellow sledder and complete stranger found the piece and followed my tracks all the way back to my cabin to return the lost item.  Couldn't thank him enough.  His kindness will never be forgotten and is something to which I aspire.

I'll bet your son and his buddies did the happy dance!!!

Sweet!!👍 there are still good people out there!

We got the auger back! The person who found it didn't want me to mention his name, we can't thank him enough! Still good, honest people around. He called Spring Bay Resort and asked if they heard of anyone losing an auger and they sent him a screenshot of my post. So, thanks to Dayis and Steve at Spring Bay Resort for that! Thanks again everyone for getting the auger back to us!

Who’s been out? I got hit with the flu and am still recovering.
    • CigarGuy
That's what they're going to do. I always read these posts and wondered how people could lose or forget stuff, well it happens!

Dang….  I know it’s your son, so kinda different, but I’d be expecting a replacement from those who lost it.  The group could each put in and wouldn’t hit one or another too bad.   But that’s just an old man’s thoughts….💭    Good luck.

So my son and buddies were out this morning fishing between Wakemup and H.O.L. Bays (probably between Metza's pt and Schmidt Island), so they had to cross the snowmobile trail to The Landing. Well,  MY Strikemaster 24 volt auger fell off the back of my sled.  They didn't realize it until they got back. If anyone found it, would be nice to get back...please and thank you. Good news is they had the battery in their pocket..... Dip $hits😡
