My buddy and me are always looking for something or somewhere else to try on the hard water. Anyone out there now of any of the little ponds/lakes that would be worth a try. There are thousands around but they are not always easy to come by. Sometimes those are the ones that just never get touched and can give you a memory of a day that will last forever.

Anyone have any advice or would like share please do so. It gets to be the time of year when you just wanna get away from everyone and these little GEMS are just the place to do it for me.

Thanks in advance for any input.

My best advice for you is to just go and fish them and if you find something, keep it under your hat. There is some info on the DNR lakefinder page that may help, but even that isn't always accurate or recent.

Wouldn't even want to see lake names posted if it were me. Hard work, elbow grease, etc gets it done when you're talking about these types of places.

Thats what I kind of figured.

+1!!! This is why I do have some lakes near my home area that are gems in which I do not want to mention in this forum. If it was up to me, I would send up to 3 fellas in the PM route to cordially invite them without anyone in this forum knowing. No offense intended to anyone who felt offended already--I must apologize in advance.

+2.... Best advice I ever heard Dave Genz say is use the mn lake finder if it says they only found one ten + inch crappie during there netting that's all I need. It shows they are there. My lunch breaks at work are spent looking at google maps and Mn lakefinder prepping for the next trip. Good luck to ya. A lot of ice out there and tons of great memories to be made and that's what it's about.

This year with all the people out I find it hard to believe there is such a thing.. that said, if it hasn't frozen out I would try the small pond in cannon city, caron lake, or make a trip to Rochester's foster aeronds for some stocked rainbow trout. They fight great but don't taste the best do to being fed dog food their entire lives.

Yeah if you post a name of a untouched gem on here, it will turn into an overfished dead sea within days. Remember that many of these are going to freeze out, and fish become really lethargic in the weeks leading up to that point.

Maybe not as many un-touched GEMS down in that area, but if you head North you will find tons of them but you may have to hike in to them. wink
