Good Morning All,

Just wanted to throw this out there to see if anyone has been fishing Union?

I talked with an Old timer, he said that he has been getting some nice Crappies and big Pike. I have not fished this lake for 15 years.

Back in the day this lake was one of the funnest lakes to catch big Pike on. I was on it 15 years ago when it froze out, and there was dead fish everywhere.

I have seen a few spear house out there last couple of weeks. Has anyone been on this lake in the last couple of years?

I drive by everyday and haven't even seen the spear house this year. I know they've been out there with the dirt bikes racing again. According to the DNR lakefinder there could be some biggins in there! I keep thinking i should give it a go and never do cause my limited fishing time

I have a friend that lives on the south side of the lake, not right on it. You cant see them from 19. But there is a few guys fishing it.

I live within 4 miles of it. I think I will give it a go on Sunday.

We used to catch some big ones in the day.

I have seen a few local guys in boats on it, fishing in the summer.

Rob, me and a buddy always have thought about trying that lake in the summer, but never have. I think it would be a big bang or big bust regardless. Has it froze out anymore years than 15 years ago?

Jon,

I don't know if it has or not. If you want to give it a go, lets tear it up on Sunday!!

I believe it froze out pretty bad in the winter of 2010 (or whichever winter that was, it's too early in the morning to think). I remember seeing a lot of dead fish at Hunt Lake and Union lake. The DNR numbers are probably too outdated to go by (2005).

I live pretty close to it as well and have always wanted to run some flags out there; just haven't got around to it! Good luck if you try it.

I remember it was on the liberalized list a few years back when everything froze out. But I'm sure a few survived, good luck!

I've also thought about trying it, I drive right past it on my way to fish other Faribault lakes. I didn't like the looks of how shallow it is though, seems like it would have winter kill any season the ice gets real thick, will probably happen again this year.

Was out on union last year with two buddies setting up 3 tip ups and made swiss cheese on the west central part of the lake, 7-9 feet ow. Fished for 4 hours, no flags, and marked one fish walking around jigging.same thing as rubber, got fish out there 15 years ago, then nothing.

It has been opened to liberalized fishing the past few years.

I run my dog out there in the summer, never brought a pole with though, might have to one of these times.

Thanks everyone for your post.. I'll give you a update when I fish it.

Doesn't hurt to try to fish close to home. I do have a couple of lakes I could easily fish close to home anytime. One is fast and furious pace but lacks in size for pannies while other is very tough, lotta hole drillin', hole hoppin'--yet the pannies are nicer and thicker. Except open water season, both lakes are tied for producing very big and piggy largemouth bass!!!

RD we will leave it to you to get the fish biting i guess. Hopefully you come back with a great story and some good pics.

It is  pretty shiny piece of equipment. I was able to purchase it on my scab job wages 😆 I don't think I'll update the electronics any time soon, 3 screens is enough?

I mean to catch pike you just need a shiny object...

Just another "Words matter"   Voting on school levy. This was posted on the School "education district" building door.  We had a nice cold walk all the way around the building! The arrow was added, after we educated them! 😒

Obviously this is more of a hot topic due to forward facing sonar. With that being said, I know people who have pulled crappies out of basins 40+ deep since the fl-8 and zercom flashers came out. That's over 30 years ago. I do think there's a push to ban these in MN and I could see them doing it here. They'll have to pay my livescope from my cold dead hands 😆 on days I can't catch a walleye jigging or rigging it's nice to turn it on and throw corks at individual fish

It wasn't just you, I was fishing west of you about an hour on Monday. Fished 8am-4pm, no fish, two keeper walleye and one small one from 4pm-630pm. Marked a lot of fish, they would come up to a jig and swim away. They were skittish to the dead stick too

I wonder like divers, if we let them decompress every 10' for 1/2hr. If that would help?  🤔  It would slow the bite down a bit!  🤭
