Heading up to kroon is today. Need some advice. First where can you get bait in town? Secondly, what access is the best to get on the lake? Never been on this lake. Looking to fish the islands so I'm looking at the access just north of them. Is that what you all call hwy 55 access and is it in good shape? It sounds like you shouldn't drive between the islands but are there other areas to watch out? Just want to be safe. I can do some scouting once I get up there. I just don't want to be that guy that wonders in to open water eek thanks

I always have gotten bait at hilltop I believe it is called. East side of town on HWY 55, across from the campers sales place. Haven't been there this year so I can't help you with the rest.

The access just north of the islands is Van's Beach, a park owned by City of Paynesville and should be a good access point to the islands. The 55 access that people refer to is at far northeast end of lake right off of Highway 55 where the Crow River comes into the lake from Rice Lake and used to fish the eastern side of the lake. The only other access that may be easy to use is in the end of the far southwest bay off of the county road, just follow the tire tracks on the lake and should steer you away from any bad spots. Ditto on Hilltop to get bait, on Hwy 55 just as leaving town going east convenience store on north side of highway.
