I'm looking to take my young nieces out on their first ice fishing excursion with me and my house tomorrow since the weather looks great. I live in the area but normally fish out in the Willmar/Glenwood corridor so I don't know the Wright county lakes much at all. Just wondering what lake would be good to take kids to that has a lot of action? Sunfish,perch,crappie....

Also one that is good to drive on?? With that said are there any lakes that are dangerous to drive on due to thin areas, whether it's aerator or natural springs/current? I guess i just want to be safe and have them catch some fish, no matter the size and hopefully get them hooked on ice fishing. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Eagle lake just north of big lake is a good one. Nothing big but pretty constant when I've hit it.

Constance has been good for me at times for numbers but haven't been out there in about a week now. the key out there is to get away from the group. the one thing about the gills on constance now is that they have those small black spots on some of the fish (not all of them but some). it's not a big deal if you don't plan to keep any of them, but if you do pick through the fish as you catch them and only keep the ones with less or no black spots. the bait of choice when I was there was wax worms and euro larva. the gill bite turns off right at about 5 PM like clock work(at least this was how it was when I was there last few times). a spring bobber and a #10 glow red Drop jig has been my main go to jig and set up for out there. the fish will be about a foot or two off the bottom.

Cool thanks. Not planning on keeping any fish. I'm a catch and release type for the most part unless my parents are hungry for fish. Are there any aerators or sketchy spots to stay away from when driving on constance? Springs? This is assuming with the snow driving is still possible.

no it is fine out there. the ice is 2 feet thick. the only tricky spot at times can be the main public access as it is kind of steep if there is much ice on it but is still do able. there is also a lesser know access with a flatter approach off of Brighton Avenue. this might be better to get a wheel house on if that is what you have for a house.

It is  pretty shiny piece of equipment. I was able to purchase it on my scab job wages 😆 I don't think I'll update the electronics any time soon, 3 screens is enough?

Just another "Words matter"   Voting on school levy. This was posted on the School "education district" building door.  We had a nice cold walk all the way around the building! The arrow was added, after we educated them! 😒

Obviously this is more of a hot topic due to forward facing sonar. With that being said, I know people who have pulled crappies out of basins 40+ deep since the fl-8 and zercom flashers came out. That's over 30 years ago. I do think there's a push to ban these in MN and I could see them doing it here. They'll have to pay my livescope from my cold dead hands 😆 on days I can't catch a walleye jigging or rigging it's nice to turn it on and throw corks at individual fish

It wasn't just you, I was fishing west of you about an hour on Monday. Fished 8am-4pm, no fish, two keeper walleye and one small one from 4pm-630pm. Marked a lot of fish, they would come up to a jig and swim away. They were skittish to the dead stick too

I wonder like divers, if we let them decompress every 10' for 1/2hr. If that would help?  🤔  It would slow the bite down a bit!  🤭
