I have a question for people that are more familiar with the river than I am. I have always accessed the lake at the lake but later this month I will be staying at a house across the street from the river. My question is how is the access to the lake from the river? Am I able to get on the river and go up to the lake via snowmobile without having to deal with ice that may be weak do to current? We are looking to go up the river and proceed to go further north on the eastern border. Is this going to be an issue? Thanks for the help.

The bombers run the river every day. The snowmobile trail runs the river too. Snowmobiles on the river are just fine

nik. This time of year (at least most years) the river is plenty safe for travel. However early on in the season the river can be tricky depending on water levels, current, the type of freeze up, snow load etc. There are places that are worse than others. Alot of people who come up here mid to later in the season one year and then come up here early in the season another time can get complacent on when and where it's safe to travel on the river. Best thing to do depending on the time of year is stop in a resort or one of the bait shops and inquire about the safety of traveling the river from where your planning on taking off from and find out if there are any problem areas to watch out for. Good luck and safe travels!

So our trip up the river worked perfectly. We went up to Knight Island and had great fishing. We fished 30 feet of water right off of some structure. The best part was that we were all alone. We could only see one other group far off in the distance.

So we went up the river again last weekend and went up to the Knight Island area again. The fishing wasnt as good as a couple weeks ago, but it is considerably more busy up there now. We had a few nice fish and decided to try to scratch out a few more on the river since we would be heading that way anyways. We didn't catch a single fish on the river. I guess I am just looking for advise on how to deal with the current and any other general tatics for fishing the river. Thanks
