Heading up to Vermilion for my first time ice fishing.

We are staying at Glenmore Resort. So the closer to that location the better. But our group is portable and can move where the fish are.

Looking for Walleye, Pike, pan fish. I am not that picky. I enjoy fishing for anything.

Does anyone have an tips on lure, lure color, bait, location or depth?

I had decent luck last Friday/Saturday (10 walleyes and 12 perch) in 28 feet of water. Walleyes wanted rainbows on a plain red hook.

The fishing was very slow for us. In three days of 4 guys hard core fishing we only caught about 8 Walleyes, 1 Northern, 1 perch and a couple of white fish.

Personally I only caught 1 fish in 3 long days of fishing.

We fished anywhere from 15 - 32 feet of water. We caught the white fish at the deeper end.

We caught the most walleyes on tip ups.

The fish were down there. You could see them on my hummingbird flasher. They would come up to your bait look at it and leave.

I tried a red hook, buck shot, darter and the fish were not interested.

We fished around reefs and around different islands.

As far as driving out. Stick to the roads. We had sleds and got stuck a bunch of times. There were random slush pockets out there.

We did not see a lot of fisherman. Most shacks were near a road and people were fishing out of permanent shacks. I think the location was due to where the road was more than where the fish were.

In summary, the bite was slow. No matter where we fished on the lake the bite was slow. If you know the lake you might do a bit better. But if you are new to the lake don't expect to much.
