Has this ever happened to any others using a Strikemaster? The top blade broke off.

Is the blade stamped 'china' I think I heard something about this

Never happened to me and never heard of it happening. If its a defect and you didn't hit something Strikemaster might just replace them.

Very common if it is a Chinese blade. Mine are the Mora blades and I haven't sharpened them or replaced them in 6 years; make sure the next set you get isn't Chinese.

Both sets of spares I have say Made in Sweden.

That broken blade was either defective or it sure look's like it hit something. If it did not hit anything, I would call Strikemaster as they may replace those for you as suggested above, sure worth a try.

In the picture, is the far right bottom side of the broken blade bent? Kind of look's like it is bent a tad.

These blades are made in Sweden. I emailed StrikeMaster, and will send the blades in. They said "these blades do have a one year warranty against defects with a proof of purchase." The bottom blade was little bent. I have no clue how this would have happened, I have had this auger since the middle of December.

I was on the chain today and i have a Strike Lite that's on its 3rd season that just did the same thing. Since new it has always caught a little at the bottom if the ice. Today it broke at that point. Same as yours it broke through right where the set screw gos. Could it be blade angle? On the plus side was able to drill holes the rest of our day out as fast as some other augers I've' used.

I dont recall where my blades were manufactured from, however, last year I drilled 5 holes with a brand new Strikemaster Honda lite and the same issue occurred. I brought my blades to scheels and they replaced them with brand new ones. Same thing happened with two more sets of blades. I sent my bit in for warranty service to figure the issue and they said the auger pitch was out of whack and thats why the blades were fracturing. It came out of factory like this as I had only drilled five holes. I would bring it to a Strikemaster warranted dealer and have them take care of it at no cost to you provided the blades are still under warranty. Also be sure the screws are tight, if not there will be enough play to bind, bend, and break...

Good luck

Brought my auger down to H2Outfitters in big lake today to check the pitch of my blades before i put the new ones on and it was a little off. They corrected it and changed the blades. I stopped at camp lake a drilled a few holes on the way home and it cuts better than when i first bought it. No more catching at the bottom of the hole. The guys at H2Outfitters know these augers inside and out. Also don't forget to check the blades periodically to make sure there tight. That will make them brake as well.
