Seen some really nice ones on the camera.

Gotten a few nice ones this year, mostly on lakes with special regulations that protect them.Too many people killing the big pike off. let those big ones go/watch them in the hole and keep the smaller fish.

Good advice! The smaller ones are good to eat too.

idk...i speared a couple over 15 pounds last year and they tasted just fine.

Well bigger pike play huge role in keeping pike numbers in check.

Pike fishing has been pretty slow for me this year. I was on a local and usually reliable lake Saturday and had no flags, ended up fishing for pan fish and kept a half dozen 7 - 8 inch sunnies for lunch. I'll be going to some old and more reliable pike spots this coming weekend. I want to pickle some as I'm down to my last jar from a previous batch.

It's only slow because you missed a few shots on some nice fish grin

Actually this is the slowest winter I have had spearing, but the weather has been so up and down.

Nice pic birdguy. Maybe I just need to start fishing pan fish as well. Archerysniper I can't wait for the day when you miss your big one wink maybe I will be there to get the second shot. Haha

Polarispro have you seen Archerysnipers new little decoy. grin

No I haven't unless your talking about the dorkfish sunny decoy. I know he does need so welding done on his spear.

Yea that new decoy is why I have some welding to do. laugh

Yep, the pan fish action seems to be good this year and the pike action pretty slow. I'll have to get out one of my "killer" rods and go after crappies soon.......

As Moose said big pike are the most important fish in a lakes ecosystem, they are the top predator of the smaller pike keeping them in check, if you pull out the bigger pike the lake will get over run with smaller pike, then they will eat all the forage and the end result is every species in the lake will end up stunted, I have absolutely no problem with spearing or keeping a legal limit of pike through angling, but just keep in mind only keeping the bigger fish will eventually hurt the lake.

Went out to Lake George in Anoka Co on Sunday. Our party had 6 tip ups out and had 4 flags, landed a bass and small nort. I heard that lake has million small pike, but we must have not been in the right spot. Still a beautiful day to be out!

Just because my daughter did the polar plung in my spear hole doesnt mean she is my new decoy. Actually polarispro's son pulled her out of the hole.

I guess if you didn't have her tied off it couldn't be considered a decoy. grin
