Mine came from an antique shop. All the ones around here seem to have them. $15-30 range depending on rust level and dealer.

Mine came from flea markets and antique shops. There's lots of them on the online auction sites.

Or hope and pray they have ice tongs as a raffle prize at the next spearing banquet and win them wink

I have a couple sets of stand up tongs. They are hard to find and can be pricey but they are nice to have.

I got a set of 34" tongs from one of the auction sites, a few days ago. It was already mentioned that there are plenty of tongs to view at that site.

Well the extra set I have are brand new, not sure I want to part with them as my son would like to have them.

H&H sports in Maple lake will most likely have a stand up set.

I ordered a decoy from him last week. He sent me a message saying he can't ship it until Jan. 27 because he's on vacation.

Posted

Yes he gone but he would ship Speed delivery to me when he gets back. The other place in MI never responded to phone or email's SO I went with Jeff after having a nice chat with him.

I'm not impressed he didn't post that info on his website. I ordered my decoy online. When he sent me the email saying it wouldn't ship he said I would have to contact PayPal if I didn't want it and wanted a refund.

I called the Number on the website as I had questions? I did not try to order it off the online ordering until after the call. If they list a phone number I always call before trying to order. Call me old fashioned. I was ok with the delay as I have a 26 year old son to grunt my ice chunks out for now.

How are you getting your ice block out with out a pair of tongs? Are you reaching in the water and grabbing it by hand? Just curious as I wouldn't even attempt to do it with out my tongs.

We cut 2 cornerholes with auger then use saw. We then used chisel to cleave block in half. Then used chisel in auger hole to pry block up high enough for son to grab and slide sideways onto ice repeat for other block. If I am alone or with a non athletic person we may break up into many smaller chunks and use plastic scoop shovel with holes drilled in it for drainage to get chunks out. If I am in an area with nobody around fishing or spearing or driving I may slide it under and mark it really well when I leave but I prefer to replace blocks and mark it. If I am coming back the next day I would put blocks in cover with snow to insulate and mark so it doesn't. freeze as much. If not coming back put blocks in use just enough snow to hold markers.

im the same way I always like to talk to somebody to order my stuff.

but I don't know if I could use a new ice tong. something about using an old one that could have been used to put ice in sombodys ice box in the 20s is pretty cool to me.
