I will be going up and staying on ash river at the end of January with a few buddies and were planning on spending a day fishing kab for some walleyes and maybe some slab crappies.

Has anyone had much success in ice fishing kab? I've heard it's not as good as summer fishing.

I would imagine the walleye are heading out to deeper offshore structure around this time so I was thinking fish from 20 to 40 ft during the day and and move a little shallower during light tranistion periods.

Where could I get into a school of crappies?

Let me know as well. This has been a trip I have wanted to take for years.

If you are only fishing for a day, I would just plan on fishing walleyes, crappies take some time to come by up there. Unless you get a hot tip once you're up there. I will say, you are in a good area for crappies though, that whole area from the mouth of the Ash on Kab and Sullivan bay are good areas for crappies. I would ask around when you get up there. Walleyes you seem to have a good grasp of where to look and they are a better bet if you only have a day IMO.

yes and I don't think any one is going to hand out their "crappy" spot.
