Absolutely hammered the fish! We went up thinking the -35 would skunk us, but 4 of us worked hard and caught 100 fish in 2 days. Awesome houses as well. The owner maybe be short on words, but who cares when Brad Hawthorne puts you own the fish. As long as Brad is with Portavilla, I would recommend them everytime!

Glad to hear somebody got fish. Four of us were up Wednesday to Saturday and the fishing was downright terrible. 5 keepers TOTAL (4 people over 3 days!). I may never go back to URL ever again. Worst part is we brought friends and family who had never caught a walleye before and they didn't catch anything. A bit frustrating to say the least. Think I may have to take up a new winter hobby...

Next time book your trip through Portavilla & you'll catch fish

Joe. Don't throw in the towel. You just weren't lucky enough to be on the fish prior to the big pressure change on Saturday. When a barometric pressure change of this magnitude occurs fishing can get tough at any time of the year. Folks that are familiar with the fishery can stay on active fish. That's one of the perks to being relatively local.

If you can't get out with one of the guide services, you either have to be mobile, or lucky to land on active fish when the weather changes to wicked conditions like these.

URL is FULL of nice walleyes. You just had one bad stretch. Don't give up. There's tons of good fish in there. You just can't expect it to be gang-busters every time you go. That's fishing.

Sorry to hear about your bad trip. Next time it might be worth the extra money to go with a guide service, or resort outfitted trip. You can pick up a lot of great intell from these folks, and you'll likely do much better on your next DYI trip.

If that is what defines a good trip (catch rate) than you could just give up fishing and bring them to the local meat market too. WAY cheaper.

You can get skunked anywhere in the world man. Possibly giving up on a lake because of one weekend's bite is hilarious though.

I second that. I took a guided trip out of Mille Lacs with Tony Roaches outfit and learnt a lot of tips. Opened my eyes to what it takes to make a successful trip.

We went out right before Christmas and Hawthorne put us on a good spot for eyes. They took care of are needs to stay warm too.Bathrooms were near by and if we needed anything they were there to help.I would definitely use them again.

That's ok, I wish that more people would think the same way and not come back. Then less people would be on URL making less noise so that I can catch more fish.

Sounds like blast. Headed up nextweekend for our first time on red. We have a sleeper booked with portavilla. Did you guys get out in the portables or did you stay in the permanent? Long range forcast looks good so far

We went threw portavilla as well. went up on Saturday thinking that we were gonna get skunked. We were going to stay till Monday but packed up on Sunday afternoon due to the fact I picked up the flu. As far as fishing was it was GREAT. In the sort time we were there we got well over 50 fish and we left with our 4 man limit of quality fish. If we would of stayed till Monday we would of defiantly passed the 100 fish mark
