Is it a decent lake? Any tips or general info you'd be willing to provide?

My dad wants to fish it this weekend and claims it's a "good crappie and walleye lake", but the DNR survey shows otherwise. Looks like mostly gills/northerns to me. I'm not opposed to just going out, fishing for whatever bites and having a good time, but I'd like to know a little more about what to expect. Thanks!

Fished it once last year on the hump over on the west side in shallow water and we caught bluegills one after another...ok size. Not sure about any other fish in there these days...

expect to loose a few jigs to northerns. There aren't any huge northerns that I have come across, but decent population of them.

Fair amount of bluegills also, havent ever caught a crappie there though, wonder if he maybe is confusing it with a different lake, or maybe at one time it was.

Caught some nice crappies out there two winters ago towards the west side in about 30ft. Usually a village of fish houses, not exactly a secret spot. Did get a few stray northerns, no walleyes though.

Used to be a great lake for big pike, big bass, decent crappies, gills and eyes 6-7 years ago. Now its just like most metro lakes - not that good. The lake association used to stock the walleye, not the state. I don't know if they still do.

If you go I'd plan on fishing pike. You can get a meal of gills but you'll have to do a lot of sorting. There are much better lakes for eyes and 'pies. Good luck.

I fish the lake open water. It has some pretty big pike in there. I've never caught an eye out of there though. Would be a fun lake to fish with tipups.

Thanks for the helpful responses guys, I appreciate it.

But yeah, this specific statement is kind of what I was thinking personally based on the DNR survey.

So did you fish it? How'd you do?

Unfortunately, no, we didn't. The forecast for that day took a turn for the worse, and by the time we were thinking about heading out it was below zero so he wussed out on me heh. It's still something I'm looking at doing before the year is out though, so if I do make it out there I'll post some results!

I have caught a lot of big pike in that lake. Biggest last year was 38.5 in. I like to use musky baits in the fall and spring for the big ones. I have caught decent eater walleyes but those are few and far between, but there are some in ther, never fished it in the winter bit i think i will give it a chance this winter
