This is a 1982 Damon Howatt Hunter. The riser is Bubinga w/ a Shedua accent stripe. Wife was quite pleased when FedEx delivered a 6' 10" sono tube!

Already got about 50 shots through her - whisper quiet and packs a punch. Spring gobblers be on the lookout!!!

I did end up talking the wife into a horn hunter full curl frame pack and a garmin 62s GPS for future western hunts. Can't wait to use them in the backcountry.

Sounds like you made a nice haul too HnH!

I'm shooting full length 2117's w/ 80 gr brass inserts and 125 gr points through it right now. Still have to bare shaft tune though.

My new toy won't be here for another month-ish, but I'll spill the beans early. I'm getting an Omega longbow 40lbs @ 26''. 9+ months to be able to hit the boiler room every time at 25 yards, I'm hoping to get my first trad-bow deer next season I'm looking forward to posting pics when it arrives.

With all the trad bows finding new homes we should plan for the Rochester 3d trad shoot this spring. Then we will see how easy it is to hit the boiler room at 25.

I got some lighter limbs for my Takedown as well and wow did that make a difference in my accuracy! Wish I didn't wait so long. I lost 2 full inches of DL going to trad. Right at 28". Makes it easy getting the poundage right when looking at bows.

I've read some archers have better accuracy with heavier bows in the mid 50 pound range. The lighter ones being tougher to shoot. My lx is 45@28 and have gotten pass thrus on 4 deer the last couple years. I was thinking about going to get heavier limbs for elk but changed my mind. Saving my money for gear and using the wheel bow. I've heard omegas are good bows and forty wil be plenty for whitetails. Howatts are great shooters and lookers, sure is shiny.

Just curious a lot of guys go thru a lot of bows looking for " the bow". How did know you'd like the bow without getting your hands on it first?

45# is plenty I think, even for elk. Someday when I get the chance to chase elk, I'll definitely have the recurve with me. Hard to imagine lugging that 5lb compound around all day!

I had no idea how I'd feel about that Howatt buying sight unseen. I had been watching the classifieds for awhile and when I saw one come up with the right specs, I jumped on it. 62-64" with weights in the 40's are tough to come by. It's definitely shiny and the grip is a little "blocky" compared to what I'm used to. The used market is pretty active so it's pretty easy moving bows around. I've been shooting my takedown really good as of late so the jury is still out which bow I'll have in the blind this spring. If my compound sells, I'll be able to test drive a few more!

Mn hunting I will be next year but with out of state hunts I might lean on the sxt. I pulled the wheels this year but needed to make something happen. I let to many good does walk by waiting for a biggin.

I love traditional cause it so basic. No range finder, way lighter and inside 20 yards it's way less complicated. Don't have to worry about ethical shots at 40. Holding for a deer to stop or turn is a different story, no let off. Teaching myself to shoot better which is still fun was the hardest part.
