Does anyone know if Bablers is opening a road this year? also any reports out of Long Point? is the road open, how is the fishing?

Not sure. Called his number, and his message said:

"The road access is closed to all vehicles for the time being"

I drove through about a week ago and there was a small pad plowed where the road usually starts but that was it. Looked like there was the usual breaker 100 yards out or so.

Heard from a guy out by Long Point who had some decent action on Thursday and Saturday. Curt posted a video last week on his outing that looked good.

I stayed in one of the trailers at Babblers this past weekend and overheard Babbler talking about the road. Sounds like it is going to be 2 to 3 weeks at least before he will be able to open the road.

Talked to Russ and Kelly over at long point they are open to truck traffic 1/2 ton only

Thank you for the update. We will be up next weekend and look forward to getting on the ice.

just heard from a friend who is fishing out of rocky point, that two large cracks formed last night between gull rock and arnesons reefs, lots of water on the ice apparently, that's all i know, but it didn't sound real promising

Fished out of LP for a few hours yesterday. Appeared to be a wheelhouse convention! Crazy busy, must be the bad ice to the south. Caught 2 over the slot, a bunch of 11", NO sauger and way to many tulibee. I have never seen so many tulibee. Got to be really annoying. Bet there will be lots of smokers fired up after the weekend.

Good ice, quite a bit of snow. Russ and Boo had the plow trucks going steady with wheelhouses waiting for a spot.

Good luck.

There is plenty of water by those heaves, drove through it with the sled coming back. There were a couple trucks out on South Arnesens, not sure what path they took to get there. Tough goin with truck and trailer when off the road, and fishin was slow with lots of lookers and 11-12" walleyes.

Busted out off-road Sat and Sun out past Gull rock, and travel was tricky. My truck was one of the few that made it out over the cracks to Arneson's. Sunday around noon Babler opened the road to 16 mile. Decided to bring the road in, and got stuck trying to get there, but my fishing partner pulled me out.

Lots of tricky ice out there, especially where the rough ice has caused drifting. Road is rough and already flooding in spots, hopefully the cooler temps will allow them to keep it open. Please drive slow on the road. Found ice thickness anywhere from 16-23"

Fishing was slow to fair, but was still a great trip on the big pond.

Is there any where to get off the road at 16 mile with a 3/4 ton and a 20' house. Is babblers road still holding up that far out? Is off road travel possible with a wheel house at all?

Thanks in advance

Off-road travel with wheeled vehicles is tricky to say the least. With a 20' wheel house it will be even more difficult. Not saying it can't be done, but I'd bet you'd be shoveling a time or two.

I wonder what a person could charge with a snowbear or tracked vehicle to transport houses to and from the reefs? Arneson's probably already has that figure calculated into their business plan though.

Fished northeast of Gull Rock Jan 17-19th in one of Dale's sleepers. 90 walleyes/saugers for 3 guys in 2 1/2 days in 32-34ft. Slot fish of 23, 24, 25, and a few claims of lost ones. Mostly on emeralds with bobbers, but actively jigging. Gold and green for the jig colors, and gold for the buckshots. Fish were caught at all times of the day, but each day was different. Typical fishing....slow times and then a flurry, but it was a lot of fun and great accommodations.

Heard on the radio that Babbler's road is closed. Didn't give any specifics, but guessing it's due to the blowing snow.

I spoke to Mr. Babbler yesterday afternoon and he said that he was unable to plow yesterday due to the blowing snow and white out conditions. He said that as soon as it stops snowing that he would be out trying to bust a trai.

It sounded like the roads had blown in pretty good, so I wouldn't expect anything before at least Sunday.

Suppose to storm sunday why even bother with the road

Does Babbler have his road all the way out to 16mile?
