Any ice reports on Beaver Lake? Mainly just curious if it's safe to drive on. Also, are there any noteable springs to be aware of?

I've only fished it during open water so far. Thanks in advance!

I did. It was on-off at best. We have to work for those fish. Most of the sunnies and crappies were caught right off the bottom if you pound the jig a few times and lift it up. In most cases, the fish often are neutral biters. 17-20 FOW was what I found--look for the hump at 10 FOW. Mobility is also the key of getting on top of those fish. Drill lotta holes!

I agree Turkeyboy, i also did a lot of hole jumping and it was the only way i could catch fish. I caught all crappies. I have been on beaver 5 times this year and caught lots of crappies and 1 small walleye. Is there a spot were the sunfish/bluegills hang out on that lake? I cant seem to catch any.

Yes, there is. I struggled to catch crappies at Beaver but never a problem catching sunnies/bluegills. Think we can exchange info via PM? Just for the sake of protecting those small lake gems. wink

Sure that's fine

Haven't heard anything on this lake yet this year or much for the Albert Lea area. Fished it a number of times last year and it was a major hole hoping experience to stay on the fish but once you were on them it was fast and furious.

Anyone been there this year yet or even St. Olaf down there. Or what is the word on any of the lakes in that area.

It was nice meeting you unofficially at Rice Lake. I want to thank you for lending me your shovel as well as pushing out of my truck after dealing being stuck in the snow due to my carelessness. I can only answer to your questions--Beaver Lake, you gotta do a lot of hole hopping to catch those fish. As for St. Olaf, you do not have to work hard to catch those pannies but nothing worth keeping, really. As for Albert Lea area, I did pass by Fountain Lake after bowling league play last night...fully loaded city of shanties in the city limit. The same can be said for Albert Lea Lake. Take your pick. Now, I am kinda split whether or not to go icefishing on Saturday afternoon in Albert Lea after my all-day required workshop in Austin. Will see how I feel. Until then, kick fish rear ends, TeeWook!

Gobbles. Nice to meet you as well. It was certianly hot and heavy that day and they were everywhere. No problem about the shovel and I am always more than happy to help out a fellow angler.

Thank you for the jig on the house. It really paid off towards the end of the day.

I am glad to help you out fill out the limit you needed. We are even then. Strangers become friends. So, I see you somewhere on the water in southern MN--won't hesitate to strike up a conversation. Until then, I bid you success of kicking fish rear ends on the hardwaters.

My son got paid back for a good deed he did several years ago. He found a couple of expensive items at a boat ramp and called me asking what he should do.   I told him to bring them home because I was afraid if someone else found them, they might keep them. It was winter and nobody was around. This was when Facebook wasn't really popular yet, I was on several sites like this. First thing we did was make a big sign and posted it at the boat launch, then I posted it on all the forums I was on. Long story short, we never found the owner, but we sure tried. I know to this day, if either one of us found something, we'd do our best to get it back to the rightful owner.

Yes, for sure.     A few years back, and unbeknownst to me, a piece of trim came off my sled while traveling over the lake.  A fellow sledder and complete stranger found the piece and followed my tracks all the way back to my cabin to return the lost item.  Couldn't thank him enough.  His kindness will never be forgotten and is something to which I aspire.

We got the auger back! The person who found it didn't want me to mention his name, we can't thank him enough! Still good, honest people around. He called Spring Bay Resort and asked if they heard of anyone losing an auger and they sent him a screenshot of my post. So, thanks to Dayis and Steve at Spring Bay Resort for that! Thanks again everyone for getting the auger back to us!

Who’s been out? I got hit with the flu and am still recovering.

That's what they're going to do. I always read these posts and wondered how people could lose or forget stuff, well it happens!

Dang….  I know it’s your son, so kinda different, but I’d be expecting a replacement from those who lost it.  The group could each put in and wouldn’t hit one or another too bad.   But that’s just an old man’s thoughts….💭    Good luck.

So my son and buddies were out this morning fishing between Wakemup and H.O.L. Bays (probably between Metza's pt and Schmidt Island), so they had to cross the snowmobile trail to The Landing. Well,  MY Strikemaster 24 volt auger fell off the back of my sled.  They didn't realize it until they got back. If anyone found it, would be nice to get back...please and thank you. Good news is they had the battery in their pocket..... Dip $hits😡
