Coming up Thursday, was wondering if they are letting anyone drive a 1/2 ton pickup out of there yet? or doe's anyone have his phone #, i had it, but i misplaced it somewhere. good fishin.

Mr. Marbles,
As of yesterday the road was open for snowmobile and ATV traffic only. Richard had written a sign that basically stated the obvious, "Need coolder weather". I think that we can all agree with him on that account. It got down to 12 degrees last night so he might be letting trucks out again. Give him a shout at (218) 442-6661.

Just called Richard Babler and his wife said they are driving trucks out again, just wondering how far out i have to go to get into some fish, never been out of rocky pt area? driving a 1/2 ton truck out, dont have a wheeler. hope the wind stays down, good luck to all! Oh what road do i take to go to Richard Bablers from Baudette?

Take 8 to 17 and go to the end. You'll see the sign. The Twin islands are pretty easy to get to, just go right and the fishing was good last Saturday. Decent, I guess not great. The road was open to Gull and Arnesons also. We were going to go to 16, but didn't. We heard it was not any better.

Thanks for the update Marbles. We are heading to 16 mile tomorrow.

mr marbles, you can also just stay on 11 to the night hawk at roosevelt then hawg a right to the lake on 17. Gull Rock is about 1.5 miles out from Bablers I'd guess. Watch out for cracks as there is usually a bad one out there but this year it has been good so far. I have seen the crack there open up and- or break out during a day so it's a good idea to inspect it on foot if you see one.
It shoud be great fishing and I'm a little enveous! But I plan on a Oahe trip this wk so lotw can wait for now. Good Luck !

I was up at Morris Point Resort last weekend and they have been driving on for the last few weeks. They had over 14" of ice and the access was in good shape. Happy Rod Bending.

Mrmarbles, I just came back from babler's access this evening. The road is fine (although we didn't go past Gull rock) there were plenty of 1/2 tons mine included driving the road. Fishing was slow but steady our biggest was 26 1/2" but most were 13 -14 inchers. Used glow red and glow yellow (chartruse?) also used a jigging rap. in perch. Drove in snow all the way back to TRF. Good Luck!
------------------
Old Guide Charters
Lake of the Woods
http://fishingminnesota.com/oldguidecharters/
Call Toll Free:1-800-952-(9484)

Thanx old guide, i'll report this sunday nite, thinking about Twin island area? Whew long drive border to border, but can't wait, anyone else have report in that area
I also like the Jiggin Raps for eyes. Usually drop it to the bottom and bounce it a couple of times. If they're done there they don't seem to be able to resist it. Use Fire Tiger and Silver/Red colors. Mostly 20' deeper at the base of a reef.
Going up this weekend. Have a nice holiday everyone.

Central America. Focus. We almost went for a local overnight crappie run but the daughter’s septic froze so I got to work the brown trout pond through a 4 inch hole. It was opener today afterall. 😉

Ok, how did we get from crappies and freezing temps to pond slime eaters in south America? Focus! 🙄

The locals there shoot ducks but don't hunt them. If they see a bunch on a pond they'll sneak up and water swat them but it's strictly for food not sport. My buddy runs an outfitter so him and I will hunt a few days and scout then I'll help him with a group whose coming mid week. He's from there. Hoping he can come to Canada next year with me. He's never seen or shot a goose

Awesome kind of trip! I figured there would be a local benefit if you couldn’t bring them back (not saying you can’t). Having a connection down there is pretty cool! We donated a good share of meat to the village in Kotzebue, AK instead of shipping it all back. Pretty pricey and they really appreciated it. Win/win.

I don't bring them back, eat a lot then clean them for the village. Some like them plucked and some like the breasts cut out. It's really remote where I go and the locals live off the land. I know they want me to go get some doves for them too. My buddy is a local so we'll probably go get a deer as well for some venison for some of the elders in the community
