Fishing on Lake Vermilion for the first time!

Recommended Posts

My buddy and I are heading up to Tower in a little over a week, so mid-September fishing. Projected forecast seems to be upper 60's to low 70's for the days we'll be gone, so if that holds out seems to be pretty darn good fishing weather!

We're renting a boat from the Shamrock Marina in Tower, and we ideally are targeting Muskie. Is the muskie population ideal at one specific area of the lake, or can they be found near any of the islands? How is fishing for muskie compared to other fish on Vermilion this time of year?

Also does live bait still work fairly well at this time of year? We plan on using a lighter pole with live bait or smaller lures for walleye and smallies too, hoping we see some sort of action for the 3 days we'll have the boat. Any other tips or advice would be appreciated, thanks!
