Removing trail cams for season

Recommended Posts

MUSKY18

Buddy was just saying that its illegal to leave your trail cams up in the woods during season. Thwy have to be removed before the season starts. I've never heard this before. Looked in the regs and didn't see anything. Anyone know this to be true?

I had a guy at work trying to tell me all portable deer stands had to be taken out of the woods each night also! shocked

Ours go in Labor day weekend and don't see the back of my truck until after Rifle season if not late Bow season! wink

It's also not legal to leave them out in MT during a hunting season. However, if you're in MN I don't know of any species or season they aren't allowed.

I asked DNR Captain CO, friend of niece who worked at DNR, and he said technically things left on state land WITHOUT BEING MOVED for 14 days is considered abandoned. So if you move your camera, or portable stand, even slightly, it is not abandoned. But he also said who really knows if it is moved, as they only keep track of messes, etc.

So it is not illegal, unless not moved at all, and then it is simply abandoned, or considered "trash". DNR won't tag you, but some might steal it on you is how I viewed it.

Right out of the WMA regs:

• Elevated Stands: A person may not construct, occupy, or use any

elevated scaffold or other elevated device for the purpose of hunting,

watching, or killing wild animals, except that portable stands may be

used if they are removed each day at the close of hunting hours and do

no permanent damage.

Right "WMA" Wildlife Managment Area. Not the same as a State forest! wink

Drove by Elysian on my way home this afternoon. Shoreline didn’t appear to be pulling away, view from the highway for what it’s worth.

Got the property surveyed today. Originally plotted back in 1968 and sure enough there where metal pipes marking 3 of the corners but who knows how long it would have taken me to find them. They placed a monument on the missing corner. Hopefully this warm weather sticks around, need to remove some trees and get the wheel house moved in. Thanks everyone for your responses!

Was out on the lake today. Easy 24-26" inches of hard ice yet.

Drove around the entire lake today. From the road it looks like the warm weather has melted most of the snow. Only saw about a half dozen people fishing. Ice isn’t pulling away from shore yet. Stopped at the Borden access and walked out a bit, kicked myself for not bringing the fishing equipment, easy travel out there.

Plastic PC is 3/4 x2 x3.5. Drilled shallow holes on the transom side for the adhesive to cling to. Pretty solid. Time will tell

No shutoff needed. Take a photo of how you mounted your transducer Alex.

Actually when I store the boat I take the unit off as well. Is it ok to have the power line just hanging out? Do I need a shut off switch?
