Bait Shops

I'm heading up to Vermilion this weekend for my first time ever on this lake. Wondering about the quality of advice from the local bait shops. We're staying at a cabin on Birch Point and will likely be visiting the marina there to get our bait. We'll also be grabbing a hot spots map and following all of the advice found on this site.

Looking to get some advice on Northern fishing as well. Are they stuck in a late summer pattern right now (deep) or can you find them in shallow, submerged vegetation this time of year?

Also wanted to give an advanced Thank You to everyone who posts about the fishing. I've been following it closely for the last couple of months and feel a lot more confident that we'll be able to locate some fish.

The marina will have good advice for you.

I haven't been able to get away from work so can't help much on reports but I will advise to avoid the hot spots map. If you have a smartphone the navionics app is priceless. Otherwise spend the money and get a lakemaster map, you will be happy you did. I bought a hot spot one years ago and threw it away due to a lack of info that is found on other maps/apps.
