8"-12" of wet heavy snow fell today with more projected tonight into tomorrow. Every lake I've been on in the past week has slush. Unless you have a short walk and rubber boots you'll get wet. Snowmobile or wheeler traffic is nearly impossible.

? UGH!!! gonna be a longgggggg winter.

Other than a trip to Lotw next weekend I'm going to spend the rest of my winter at the gun range. Fishing in these conditions isn't worth the effort.

Yeah it's sad but there is a foot of slush alot of places. Buddy of mine up by Antler pulled his small house off. He is on a small lake. It had ok ice but now 6" of water and getting worse. He said a big crack opened up and it's growing. He feared the ice would go bad before the snow melted off this year. I'm not gonna get stuck or freeze up my machine or stand in water to fish.

oh I hear ya on that, been there done that way to many times. doesn't make it fun no more. worse part is you drive 3-4 hours to get there, got 3-4 days at best to fish and tolerate it. when its this bad...…..i'm not dealing with it no more....to old and much wiser.

our lake had a severe winter kill last year and another lake we love to fish appears to have had a complete kill. i'm already very concerned its gonna happen again this year with all that snow on the ice not letting sunlight through.

I guess I lied. After this next trip to Lotw I'll be home three days and then going to Canada lake trout fishing for four days.? Conditions are better up there.

I think either of those two options would be better than what I'm dealing with ? On my last semester of graduate school, so time is limited. We did get a substantial amount of snow or it seems that way with the wind and drifts. I'd heard that some lakes did solidify prior to this snowfall some with the previous cold temperatures but I don't know when I'll get out next as I am limited to foot traffic or a truck and the latter of the two seems like not the best idea!

i'd hate to see it now after that new foot of snow.i was in rapids on the 15th before that came, it was a crap shoot trying to get out on hwy 2 with the snowbanks. half the frontend of the car had to be out in the road to look for oncoming traffic!!!!!!?

It ain't pretty. Not seeing anyone on the lakes. Snow on my roof was almost hip deep so I shoveled it off. Finished it off with a swan dive (unintended) face down. So deep I could hardly walk out of the back yard.

so I caught the weather on WCCO TV this morning. some gal from deer river reported they already have 10 more inches of snow NOW then they did all of last year!!!!!!!!!!

if there is a silver liming to this these lakes that have been low should get back up close to normal. the worst of this is, the lake we have the cabin on had a severe winter kill, think this is going to put the finishing touch to it!!!!!!!!!?? it sure is nice to just head down to the dock, jump in the boat and head onto the lake. as I get more seasoned trailering to another lake is hard on this old body!!!!!!!

I've heard the snow has settled and you should be able to get around on the lake. It's a bit deep in the woods yet.

Conditions are better than January. Checked a few lakes on my drive down 38 towards Rapids. Most of them were pretty firm. I didn't go out super far with that being sad. Few smaller lakes look to have wet looking snow around some edges. I don't think I'd drive a full size pickup on any lake up here the rest of the year

got back today from the cabin, my biggest fear since jan just became a sad reality. got out on the lake about 1 pm, drilled holes in 4 different areas ranging from 7 to 14 ft of water. had my underwater camera down and all I seen where dead fish ALL OVER the bottom.? even seen a dead bullhead. later in the afternoon I thought i'd go check out the crappie hole. never marked a fish is 3 1/2 hours. did have a bullhead about inch and a half long come up the hole gasping for air...…...and it never left.

just for curiosity drove past the holes I drilled earlier to see if any fish same up them for air….. nuttin, so what mother nature killed last year it pretty much finished the job this year.

Heading up to crane Lake area. How are conditions and any tips / pointers?
    • SkunkedAgain
Yes indeed. We actually bought it together. We wedged the pontoon boat into that lift last fall and hoisted it out of the water. Unfortunately the water came up so much this spring, the pontoon couldn't float with the rising levels. There wasn't much that we could do opening weekend except wait for the water to drop and then assess the damage. It's mainly a garbage hauler so no big loss for a $500 boat/motor.

I forgot to post this but I got a jake during season B north of Princeton on some private land.  I had been hunting this flock of birds for 3 seasons now.  I hear and/or see them every day, but simply could not get a legal bearded turkey to come within range.  Finally, a hen came walking out with a jake and I dusted the jake on the 4th day of my hunt.  There's plenty of birds there, including several mature toms, so I intend to keep hunting there in the future as long as I can obtain permission.  The weather was downright terrible.  I had one nice morning of sunshine and then it was windy, rainy, and raw for days.  Saturday morning even produced a heavy summer-type down pour.  I was so thankful to be hunting in a blind.  I also saw a fair amount of other wildlife in four days, including deer, pheasants, a pair of raccoons, and a coyote.

I have questions about the following hypothetical. Buy used boat and trailer from Iowa Resident. Would need to transfer, and I have not done before. Duck boat, may occasionally fish out of it. Technically 15'11 1/2" long. Will have motor. Do I need a title? Does it need registration?   Same for trailer. Need a title? Need Registration? License Plate?   Thank you for any help.

I realize it's only been 2 days Raven77, but are you continuing to see the level decreasing?

Sight fished this one, also got a 19" off a bed with a senko but didn't get a picture because my phone died. Length was 14" for the one in the photo. Haven't been able to get out much recently, but I should be able to go Saturday.

Sizes caught matched most recent survey very closely - a lot of 12-14" fish with a few 15". Three to six feet of water against rocky shoreline at dusk was very productive. Fish still discharging milt. Should continue to be great fishing for next couple weeks along shoreline.
