Question

What is going on? Anyone know anything? I keep hearing later and later. What is the problem?

Wondering the same thing myself. I have been waiting patiently since the ice show in Dec.
Reeds has promised this week, shipped UPS
but I've heard this two other times.

It's Monday, January 19th. Could this be the week? I darn near rented another Aqua-Vu last weekend because I'm weary of waiting. I am very anxious.

I have one purchased and here is the reply that I recieved this evening. They probably will not be out until the ice clears. We have just heard from Marcum. They found a glich in the OVS 560 cameras. They wil not be available until the 3 week of Feburary.

I just hope it is available before the ice forms next season. I'm starting to think I should ask for a refund on my order, and then let them launch it to open water anglers. With all the gadgets they need to operate on that system, I guess we were all maybe a little foolish to think it would work right out of the box. Perhaps it's best to let them out in the field for a half a year until we're sure they are working right.

Someone posted in the "OVS560 vs OVS500" that they had them at Thorne Bros. Check this out and see if it is true and let us know.

NewPanfisher--

Who did you receive that response from? Was it a reliable retailer?

Does anyone have any new information on when this product might ship?

Bump.

It's January 26th, and the Monday of another new week. Is there any new news on when this product will be available.

The register guy at Prince Bait on 169 on the way to Mille Lacs told me it wouldn't be available this year.

Any official word from MarCum or one of the MarCum reps?

Brad B,
The reply i recieved was from Marine General in Duluth Minnesota. It was what he said he heard directly from Marcum.

Thanks Panfisher. So now we have two retailers saying that the OVS 560 will not be available this year, one retailer saying that MarCum has found a "glitch".

Has anyone heard anything from MarCum directly? If all of this is true, I wish they would issue a release letting those of us who bought them know we will be waiting longer.

Friday I talked to one of the owners of MarCum. The OVS 460's are being shipped, the OVS 560 they found a glitch in. They are working hard on it and will have it out ASAP. I didn't hear anything about it not being out this year. I honestly believe they will be out very soon.

That sounds like quite a problem, if it is true. Molds take a very long time to make, and if the old company won't give it up, then we will be waiting a while.

MarCum ought to put something official out regarding the delay. It has gone on for too long, and it is too easy to rumor and wonder.

I can't speak for MarCum but when ever you have a new product you time the marketing with a product release date.
Obviously something has set that projected release date back. I can't think of any company that has a policy to inform the public of internal or outside problems that result in setbacks in production.

Only MarCum knows why theres a delay in the release of the OVS 560, anything else is hear say. I'm sure MarCum will announce that date when they know and when they do you will see it posted on FM first.
If you've prepaid I'd imagine your first in line to receive the OVS 560 with a great warranty and customer service.
Like I said I'm not speaking for MarCum.

Surface Tension,

I'm sure you are right and there is no policy. I'm also confident that MarCum is doing the right thing by the product, and will provide excellent customer service.

I do think, however, that this has gone on enough and they need to say "we have a delay", and communicate that in consistant language to all their sales reps and retailers.

It's not so much that I paid my money in early December and don't have the product. I just want a valid estimate as to when I might receive it.

i do agree that they are a good compnay with good products from what i have seen . i do feel that they should at least say something about the delay. not so much as to the whys of it but how long will it be (approx). like you said and i thought i did above how many things are produced that have simular delays happen that we never even hear about? i am sure from owning the lx3 and seeing a couple of their cams when it does get out it will be a great piece of equitment also ...
In closing i sure as heck hope that what i was told is false . just repeated what i was told at thorne bros.

Here is the reply from MarCum's head guy after asking them to review this thread and for their official position:

Rick,
Received your e-mail regarding the VS 560. I don't know if I consider this to be an official position. Part of the problem was that the tooling was delayed and the dates we were given always turned out to be false.

We are currently attempting to gear up for production. The VS 460 will be first. The 460 camera rotates inside the housing just like the 560.

The differences are that the 560 also has depth, temperature, direction, battery status, 3 auto pan speeds, and an optional wireless remote.

The delays, other than tooling, have been in testing and working out software bugs. This is breaking new ground and requires alot of engineering time and testing.

We apologize for being caught up in our own excitement and getting ahead of ourselves. We always have the highest expectations of ourselves and our ability to design, manufacture, and deliver products to market. We underestimated the time it would take to bring this project to completion.

I hate to pin a date on deliveries because you just don't know what issues may crop up in production. We are feverishly working on these units and hope that they will be available before the end of the ice season. We apologize to everyone who has waited.

Thank you for doing this Rick. It appears that MarCum is doing everything they can, and that if we should receive the units we purchased sometime in the near future. I really, really, really wish I had mine now, but I guess I can wait some more.

Well at least they are trying to make the camera the best it can possibly be. Got to give them credit for correcting their own mistakes before they send it out.

glad we have some decent info on the 506 now . i also learned something to boot ,, i didnt know that the 460 has just a fw less features than the 560 and since i use the lx3 all the time it may be a better fit for me .

That is a good point to bring up. Most people don't realize that the 460 is the same camera as the 560 minus a few features. For a lot of people the 460 is all they will need. I personally am going to wait patiently for the 560.

If your main usage will be on ice, the 460 is a good option for you, especially if you are using it along side your LX-3. Just something to consider for those that are in a hurry to get the latest technology.

I just received the new Cabelas Marine catalog yesterday and they now have the Marcum OVS 460 and 560 cameras listed as a new item. I also checked them online and they have a back order alert on the items. Cabela's estimates it will take 3-4 weeks to ship this product.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
