Lake ideas for Pike in July

Recommended Posts

rebelrunner

Hoping your encounters on the lakes you've been fishing could point me to some productive catch and release pike fishing action in the Park Rapids area in mid-July.

Any thoughts on quantity and quality of pike on lakes like: Fish, Eagle, Crow Wing series, and so many more...

Thanks!

Mantrap. You might also have a shot at a musky.

thanks for the idea about Mantrap. I'm already casting a-plenty for pike, I like the prospect of a musky follow.

Again, thanks in advance for those taking a moment to weigh in on a lake or two that you know has a productive pike population.

Already thinking ahead to which lure to throw first !?! What would you throw?

Mantrap has a protected slot of 24" - 36" pike. So there always seems to be some 30" pike trying to hit my muskie lures when I am up there. Lots of fun.

A lot of the upper crow wings have the 40" minimum pike slot. Really helps keep the girthy gals in the lake. 8th and 10th are two good ones that I like to fish for catch and release pike. I have not gotten a 40" yet (would CPR anyway), but have gotten close a couple of times.

We bowfish on the crow wings a lot and all of them have trophy pike in them. Also lots of big walleye are seen, I would troll spinner rigs along the weeds and see what happens.

I'm liking all the input. Thanks. With so many lakes around PR, it's both a blessing and curse smile

'Xactly! We've vacationed in the area for 9 years now and we've still not been to 10 Mile Lake even though its less than 15 miles away! I do consider it a blessing being in the area, as we've been to 15-20 lakes and only visited a few more than 3 or 4 times.

Pretty quiet in here.  I've been fishing out of town the past 2 weeks.  Hope to fish the area lakes this week.  Heard reports of a good day crank bite on the chain but not much else.  With the full moon coming up this week may try some evening trolling.  Anyone else having any luck?

Haven’t fished the river for weeks and came home to high, muddy water so I doubt I will for another week.  I’d focus on shorelines and whatever backwater I could find at this time if I did go.

It was slow for me Tuesday afternoon and Thursday in Frazer / Smarts Bay. Wednesday was very good in 20-25 feet leeches / crawlers on a Lindy or a jig. Absolutely beautiful weather!

My wife and I had a good morning on Friday with bottom bouncers, spinners and crawlers in 20-24 ft.  Caught 9, threw back 3 18-19 in, 2 13-14 in.

I would head over the hill into the back country and fish the streams and lakes. You will have much better success catching fish. Bring bug spray

Lori has some nice gills and some okay crappies normally. Green has nicer sized crappies and gills. Ann lake has been kicking out some great fish. Check out fishing club.

Streams won’t have much of anything to offer this time of year. Maybe a couple tiny smolt rainbows. There are all kinds of shorefishing spots in the area though. Stream mouths are always the obvious spots to try. Spoons and spinners.

How was the trip? I was on the lake Tuesday and the weather was as good as it gets!

For those looking for some decent perch they seem to be hanging in the reeds chasing crawfish and minnows.   Some real dandies in there if you're in the right patch of reeds.  Not many out on the flats yet.

Been a tough bite the last couple days for me. Catching a few here and there but no consistency. Caught fish on crawlers leechesand jigging raps but for the amount of fish I’m graphing not near enough catching All my bigger fish have came on the jigging raps. How is everyone else doing?
