We went out of Ken-Mark-Ke and did extremely well, around 75-100 walleye both days day with some very nice perch included. Ice was 12-15 inches thick. Biggest fish was around 2 1/2 pounds. 10 AM was the best and we hardly could keep up, another run around 3 pm and other times youd pick up a few and then there would be some slow times like usual. Gold Jig-O-Bits and Red glow Jigs worked the best, Jigging Spoons also produced but not as well as the bobbers. Angel eye was the best spoon. Glow green jigs also worked well. Plent of eel pout out there also. Had a 15-20 lb Northern Pike on up to the hole and he did the famous "head shake" and broke the fire line. All and all a very good trip, just figured id let you all know how we did. Good Luck!
JHansel

Heading up to LOW on Friday or Saturday and my guide is Lyon's sleepers. They are in Greston Beach area not past Pine yet. I am trying to get an idea of what tackle I need to pick up. I have already picked up 3 angel eyes (1 of each glow red, glow blue, and gold). I also picked up the new Storm soft jigging lure that is sort of like a Jigging Rap. I got some buckshot spoons and a lot of Genz worms and Fat Boys. Is there any color that really work for any of you the best? I heard from Tim Lyons that small jigs have worked the best but from you guys I have heard that jigging spoons have worked. I also have a lot of Techni-Glo jigs from my dad's bait and tackle store in Sioux Falls, SD called Dakota Angler. I would like you guys to reply to this so i can get some new jgs before I leave.
------------------
watch out here i come ole mighty eye!!

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
