Greg Jennings

I just don't think the Packers can afford to offer him anything close that the Vikes can...maybe I'm wrong. IMO, it's all a smokescreen coming from GB.

They still have to pay Rodgers and Mathews next year and they already have 3 above average receivers on board...who'll they'll have to pay shortly as well.

The Pack needs to worry more about protecting Rodgers and getting better on defense...

Free agent Greg Jennings is dining with Vikings brass on Thursday evening, including coach Leslie Frazier and GM Rick Spielman.

Even Jared Allen is in attendance as the Vikings "clearly (try) to make a strong impression," according to reporter Tom Pelissero. In other words, it's more than a tire kicking as the Vikes try to sell the market's top remaining wideout on Minnesota. A deal isn't expected Thursday night. Pelissero spoke with an NFL executive who "could see" Jennings bringing home a two- or three-year deal worth between $7-$8 million annually.

But if you were Jennings, who would you rather be throwing you the ball, Rodgers, or Ponder?

Amen...I dont want him to leave GB. At this stage in his career...why leave to play with a guy who can't throw? Well, MN did pick up Matt Cassel.....a guy who is better than Ponder IMO.

I read from a questionable source the Vikings are offering 3yr, 22 million. Seems about the appropriate number to lure him here. Not sure I would pay more then that though. We will see how it turns out.

I still think he is just using us for leverage though, but we will see.

You are more then likely correct here. But how much money does GB have to pay him??? I would think if GB really wanted him THAT bad they would have already signed him and not let it get to this point. I doubt they will match any vikings offer. Its just a matter of if another team jumps in and offers more

I am kinda wondering if visiting the Vikings would give bad blood between them? But it is just a business right?

HAHAHA, gotta love when the GM and coach bring the DE to dinner to try and get a WR to sign.

Ponder- "Hey guys are you going out for dinner tonight with Greg?"

Owner and Coach- "No, no, you just stay home tonight and don't watch any tv or read any reports."

I think he is doing it to get his price up too. Jackson did it by visiting with GB to get his $$ number up when in reality wanted to go to Atlanta to begin with. From what I heard was GB offered him 10 mil, not sure if it was 1yr or 3. But that offer has been whipped off the table since free agency hit. I wouldnt pay anymore than what the vikings are so called offering him.

Not much of an update

Quote:
ESPN's John Clayton reports "things are going well" for the Vikings with their Greg Jennings visit, but that Green Bay remains in the mix to re-sign him.

Clayton's reports often consist of gut feelings these days, but it sounds like Jennings' dinner with top Vikings officials went well. The sides are expected to exchange numbers on Friday. If their bids are close to equal, it's hard to see Jennings leaving the Pack for the Vikes.

I'd have liked to have seen Fred Smoot, Moss and Mount McKinnie take Jennings under their wing back in the day lol. They wouldn't have been grazin steaks, they would've entered the back door to Sheiks. I think Jared Allen's cowboy hat and duds were the clincher last night, those born in Kalamazoo Michigan like Jennings love to ride rope and clean calf pens. He probably tried to line up Greg a turkey hunt here in a month.

Oh yes and Ponder, when is his wife due ? If that was a falacy then he should be way too busy to hook up with Jennings and Greg could respect that, Jennings text would read........"don't blame u bro".

Regarding Allen, and why he probably sat in on the meeting. Allen is a comedian, he is fun to be around, and is interesting to talk to. Allen gets out and does stuff in the public, without the media involved, he tries to be a regular person, and stay low key, and will do positive things without it having to be on tv, or in the papers. He will talk to you like you are a friend, and not act like he is better then you, like a lot of "pro players" do. This of course is just my opinion, on why he sat in with the talks.

From what I have heard/read.....if Green Bay brings back Jennings they are going to have to get rid of Finley or try to get him to sign for a pay cut. How do you think that will go over?

Finley is an silly-me if he doesn't take a paycut. Look at the market for Jennings, not good. Finely is supposed to make 8.25mil this year, not going to even come close to that anywhere else. I'd rather have a sure handed jennings for 2-3 more years and pay him 6-7mil yr than a ball dropping diva like Finley. He's been a headcase since day one and his share of injuries. He cant run block at all and blames his drops on Rodgers for "no chemistry". The guy single handly lost the packers 2 or 3 games because of the drops.

One of the worst signings in recent years by the Pack... Finnley needs to go away! He has already publicly stated he will NOT accept a pay cut or restructure his contract.

Good Luck!

I think the Packers are paying very close attention to the mass departure of the Baltimore Ravens "key" players this year after signing Flacco to that huge contract.

Rodgers is up next....

Finely at $8 million would be one of the worst contracts in the NFL. He likely had more drops than receptions last season. He also had the most annoying first down celebration in the league. I realize him making a catch is a rare event and he probably thought it worthy of celebration but it just makes him look like a tool considering all of the plays he "should" have made.

I'm sure GB is trying to plan a head a little for the contract that Rodgers is certainly going to command. It doesn't look like Baltimore planned ahead as much as they should have and now they are losing guys right and left. Not sure how Baltimore is going to be able to compete next year, they may not even make the playoffs if they can't patch the holes being left behind. It wasn't like they were lights out last year during the regular season.

All this darn Baltimore talk lol, 2 championships 1 with Dilfer at the helm and a rocket or was it missile Ismail ring fitting ceremony and a Brian Billick and a Mount McKinnie and a Matt Birk and can we just do a fake ceremony for the vikes ? Back to G. Jennings, just sign him so maybe he can share what he's learned to Ponder via Rodgers.

UMMM its strictly about money at this point in Jennings career and rightfully so.

And I know this isn't exactly breaking news but the Packers have no worries at all at the WR position and Jennings won't be missed much to be truthfull.

I can already hear PA's call... Cassel drops back, he's looking deep, he's got Jennings down the sideline...touchdown!!!

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

what do they look like this spring?
    • SkunkedAgain
I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
    • Brianf.
Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
