Striike master starting problem

Mr. Pike1

Question

I have everything ready to go. I did a quick test start on my one year old strike master and no go. I am positive I put stabalizer in the small amount of gas that was left in the tank. I added brand new fuel today and pulled until I could pull no more and she would not start. Any advise?

Remember with 2 strokes you have 3 things to look to 1)air 2) fuel, 3) Spark. TRy taking out the plug and testing to make sure you have spark. It's probably not a bad idea to change the plug every year... If the plug is wet and smells like gas you have fuel getting to the spark. Make sure the vent on the gas cap is open.. Good luck!!

Same ting happened to me when I started mine up for first time yesterday. Put choke on full, and hold the throtle down when you pull -worked for me. I also put in a new plug ea yr.

Dan- I did try what worked for you however no success in my case.

Mykal- I did drop it off at the small enging place by my house. They stated they could look at it on Monday or Tuesday. Worst case scenerio they put in a new carb. I have seen the carb kits and am sure I could have done replaced this myself but chose to leave it in the hands of a pro.

Stfcatfish, it is with in the year from the date of purchase. However, in this case I believe it to be operator error and nothing to do with the workmanship of the unit. It started on the 1st or 2nd pull all of last year. I have to take ownership on this one and would not feel right about passing this on to the Mfg. If however the service center determines it to be a mfg error I will submit a request to have this paid by them.

Sounds like you probably have a plugged up carb to me very common when gas is left in them even if it is stabilized. I like to run stabil in mine and then run it out of gas. I think you would probably need a good carb cleaning though. Just for your information gas can go bad and start to break down with in 30 days. I found that out when I was working in a small engine shop. So keep that in mind.

iffwalleyes, thank you for the feedback. Next year I am going to empty all the gas I can from the tank and then choke the unit and run till it kills. I learned my lesson.

Did you check for spark or change the plug?
Sometimes when these small engines sit it takes a will for the pump to start working. Pull the air cleaner off, choke open and prime it with mixed gas. It should fire and run for a bit. Keep repeating this.

Its recommended to store dry or with gas treated with a stabilizer. I like storing mine with gas so I can start it up throughout the summer. Also a dry carb can oxidize, especially brass components. If you do store it dry fog the cylinder and through the carb to get some protection back into the crank. Dont forget the change the plug after you burn the fogging oil off.

Surface Tension, I like your recommedation. I will stabalize the gas like I do with other small engine toys I have at home. Keep in the basement and start her up few times to make sure all is well. I am I tested it early so I have it in time for the thicker ice.

Well this will be my 5th season with my Lazer mag plus III and all I do before I put it away is run the gas out of it and pull the spark plug and put a couple of squirts of WD-40 in her pull it over a couple of times put the plug back in. Light coat of oil on the cutting blades and in the basement she goes. Still the original spark plug. She always starts on the first or second pull.

After putting a new carb in she now runs like a top. I learned my lesson on this one. That being said the check list is complete and I am officially ready for some ice.

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯

I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st

As I get older it's really not just about sending bullets down range.  Some of it's just the workmanship of the gun and the wow factor. The other two guns I have really wanted which I'll never have now because of their price, is a 8mm Jap Nambu and 9mm German Luger.   Just thought they always looked cool!
