5# PROPANE CYLINDER QUESTIION

swampman

Question

Ok maybe somebody can help with this, had my 5# cyl. filled at the end of last year and I am pretty sure the guy at the fill station overfilled it. is that possible with a opd? this is what it does when i put my sunflower heater on it, it starts to run fine then will flame up and then eventually it will go out like there is no gas flow. i tried 2 different heaters with the same results. anyone have any ideas?

Weigh the tank and be sure it has not leaked out while in storage or if it is well in excess of 7 pounds total weight. I have had tanks leak while being stored before. That would be the first thing to check.

If it is way over full then you may be having a situation with raw fuel reaching the burner and drowning it out.

If the tank is full and the weigh is OK then crack the valve open to see if you have pressure.

Be sure to do this in an open area with nothing hooked up to the tank. Also be very very very sure no ignition points are anywhere near when you do this.

If that is OK then maybe the LPD has malfunctioned and is somehow restricting flow? Then you best take it to a dealer to be check out completely.

Your thermocouple may be the culprit. Bend the tang so the tip of the Thermocouples sending unit is closer to the sunflower. If it shuts off again press the over ride button in and relight.
If it lights with the button in and shuts off when you depress the button you'll need a new thermocouple. You can find that part where ever they sell the heater.

I have a tank that does that exact same thing. It will do it even when it is half full, and it is not the heater. I don't know what causes it but if you close and open the valve on the tank it will usually work. sorry Im no help, just letting you know your not the only one.

Ok I think i got myself back in buisness. I double checked the sunflower on a 20# tank and it worked fine( i thought the thermocouple was a possibility too). i weighed the tank at home and it seemed a pound or to heavy . i took a regulator i had and put it on the tank went outside and ran some gas out of it. hooked up again and it seemed to work fine. I think it was overfilled and flooding out as backwater eddy said. the people at the lp places i have been are not to keen on filling the 5# cylinders. thanks for the help.

Overfilling is a pain. Some guys think they are doing you a favor by adding a bit extra. That usually just causes problems tell it burns down.

Maybe comment to the guy to please not fill it over the recommended #5's on the next fill? Run it completely empty and check the tank weight once. Then wright it on the tank in a marker. They should know when they fill it what the ratio is.

I had a #10 tank greatly overfilled once and it drove me @%$!% nuts tell I burped off a good cloud of gas, then it worked fine.

We fished Thursday - Saturday. Couldn’t get any marks to bite on the west end so started east. Caught lots of 9-15” eyes on the mud side of the transition. Mostly crawlers for us on Thurs-Fri but bite changed to minnows on Saturday. Our rainbows ran small but had a few big chubs mixed in. Big chubs we’re best. No eyes on small suckers.  A jig and sucker or crawler on 9-14’ rocks got smallies going in several places. Rocky points coming off islands also produced smallies with tubes, deep jerkbaits and ned rigs on east end. Also landed a 45” ski on a crawler harness.

I also don’t really believe that you can earn online casinos. There you can play, put bets, win and more often lose money. In the casino for Norway, the same rules apply as for the rest of the casino. If you are lucky, you will win. But to earn money, it is unlikely.
