That is an interesting area of the lake already and now we find out that there is a bachelor party right in the same area. I had a little time to drive around and it looks like Dean did a fantastic job of getting people spread out. It looks like almost everybody has 100 yard between them. That last surviving V-Plow and Dean had an awful workout today. He looks as tough as I feel. It's been a tough week.

Early reports are of a slow bite. Maybe the fish are tired too. tired

Get some much needed rest my friend,

Not quite yet. The other 1/2 of the bachelor party is coming in later tonight. The first 1/2 is in no shape to drive anywhere to show them where the other house is.

I thought of an old "crappie boom" happening today. A person had a few cocktails and when he leaned over to skim ice out of his hole he lost his balance and went head first into the hole scraping his face up on the freshly drilled ice. O when we were younger and foolish. Now we are just foolish with great memories.

It's going to get cold tonight it could be a three dog night. Lol

Does anybody know where the term three dog night came from?

You got to witness a early prototype of the aguaview is all that happened that night is my version. And I'm sticking to that story like porties on a hard sider.

If anyone encounters Monica Lewinski, please escort her our way. Sitting on a pile of cigars. Jigging a chub head on a hot tomale has been most productive. Only kept fish is a 15 reluctantly kept needing surgical removal of a dead sticked gold charmer with full shiner. Pondering how to enjoy the after bar bite without going to the bar.

Pretty quiet here, that means either fishing is slow, everybody is sleeping in or it's so fast anf furious no time to type. I'm hoping for the latter. They are talking snow again on Thursday and Friday, enough already. No forecast as to where and how much, 70 0/0 chance. 4 hrs of white knuckle should be rewarded with some good fishing.......I can hope or dream can't I?c smirk

Did he fill your buckets with fish like he used to do to unsuspecting fishermen during the crappie boom? The "crappie fairy". grin

About Noon today could everyone keep an eye out for a darker colored pickup driving aimlessly around the lake. It could be Living_the_Dream trying to find where he is supposed to be. It makes no difference what road you are on he could turn up anywhere. grin

Well had enough propane to make it through the night. Pretty slow this morning only 2 smaller ones . Halfway back to my house last night all of a sudden I was attacked by three dogs. At least they didn't run away. Labs check your bucket that one's pretty soft ! ;-)

Yeah last night was slow... Except the three fish we got from three dogs bucket... That was a fantastic flurfy...! We only put one in on our own.... Course it's hard to tally up fish when you are out and about causing havoc and destruction!

We put two more walleye in the bucket and released a crappie this morning. Truck said minus 19 out there. Trying to gel up on me. Maybe best wait till it warms up a bit befor I get back out creating chaos

Keep those flurfys coming Labs. I look at it this way. You are just getting them annoyed until we come up next week and they will want to take out their revenge on someone, I hope. grin

Traveler, at this time of the year it is not about catching so much as relationships. I hope we can connect sometime. Kelly has been extremely good to us over the years and I am looking forward to meeting his neighbor. smile

Things have really slow down the last couple hours, but I got my fish and will pack up shortly. I would like to thank Kelly for finding a place for all of us out here, And Johnny P for pollowing us a roundabout ! It was nice meeting Scott , Labs and Traveler , Nice to put some faces with some names on the form ! Wish I could stay for the afternoon barbecue but I don't know if I can handle another night partying with Labs , For he can't sing anything like Johnny Cash but he thinks he does! Lol. ;-)

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
