Vermilion Crappies at walleye spots?

Recommended Posts

Quick question for the Vermilion experts... My friends and I are going to be walleye fishing out of Pikes Bay Resort. I have an itch to catch some crappies in addition to walleye. We will be fishing out of a rented stationary ice castle. Do you think there is any possibility that we might find crappies in the same spot as we are fishing walleyes? Just curious if we should bring our crappie gear in case we seen some marks coming in suspended on the flasher.

Thanks for the help.

Carl

How is it possible? I've fished vermilion two weeks a year for 30 years. I have never seen a crappie?understand, I have never targeted the species but dumb luck would suggest I would find one???

I grew up on Vermilion on Pike Bay not far from where Cliff lives now. We used to get some real nice (big)crappies (and not just 1 or 2) in the fall using small pink and yellow jigs, in Pike Bay. But ... I can't remember ever catching one in the winter.

They are out there but you have to work hard for them... But the odds of you catching them in the rental are extremely slim.. Crappie gear will land you some tulibees though.

Keith,

Welcome to HSO!

Good to have you here!

There are a few caught every winter at the mouth of the river yet but that is a very small number lately.

There are a few spots that crappies can be caught on the East end during the winter but it is really a hit and miss bite.

No crappies by any of the rental houses that I know of.
