Ice was 16 or so everywhere I was today.... No snow on the lake so travel was easy everywhere. 4pm-5pm was the best bite. I caught a decent amount of small walleyes but the biggest was only 12 inches. I was in 27 feet of water, deeper water around me.

Has anybody bean fishing pelican for walleye? I'm heading up there this weekend and was going to try pelican. Just wondering if they were getting any and were abouts at on the lake.

I started this forum for the same reason to find out what's going on. Seems like people are pretty dang quiet around the area. I have seen a lot of fish houses out but from what I'm hearing, seems like an afternoon bite and they are getting a ton of tiny walleyes, but no size to em. Let me know how you do maybe we can trade some info.

Any updated reports on Pelican? Thinking about coming up this weekend and would like to know how easy it is to get around the lake...how bad are the heaves?

Is it easy to get around with a vehicle after the last snow fall?

I live a block off the lake and hear it has slowed down. thinking about heading out with the otter house in the am and looking for a few northerns. someone speared a dandy last week-10 days ago. there is a pic at the gas station and i believe it was 38-39" and fat as a liberal chick!

Sorry, no current report, I pulled my house off Sunday before the snow. I haven't seen much for pressure ridges, so the snow will be the challenge. I measured 28" of ice.

Saturday I fished just off a weed edge in about 22', 4 small eye's about prime time on a flyer and then nothing until about 3 AM - then a 21 and 22 on the rattle wheel - one on a shiner one fathead. A couple more small eyes in the morning.

This has been my luck all winter, no eaters, a few little guys mixed in with the occational 20+ incher. The highlight has been my 12 yo daughter catching a 26 one morning while dad was outside the house - I'm still amazed the mono didn't break when she pulled it up... grin

rockyhook, you said that you didn't seen much for pressure ridges. Where did you seem some? Is there the usual one that runs from Gooseberry over to the point by Halverson there this year? I'm planning on spending the day out there tomrrow for the last day of Walleye and want to know if I can get acrossed it with a sled or have to go all the way around the isle this year again? frown Thanks.

Well I wish I would have gone Sat & Sun it was so nice out there today. Ended catching 2 Tullies, 1 Pike, 1 Perch and about 20 Walleyes. Only kept 3 eye's because most of them were little cigars. I was out in the middle of the north end with no one even near me. Never turned on the heater and fished with the top down most of the day. It was a perfect day to end the Walleye season! wink

Sorry Leech - I just saw your message. The ridge on Pelican I saw was just a bump in the road for the truck. I also got out on Sunday for the last hour or so and caught a small slimer, a couple of perch and 6 underage eyes. There sure were a lot of those around this winter, hopefully we'll see size improvement next winter.

Nice evening to end the walleye season.

This spring I saw a lot of grouse and even a few broods. I'm hopeful for the upland season. Didn't see a whole lot of mallard ducklings this year but good numbers of wood ducks. I think the Canada geese numbers go up every year.

My uncle and dad said they aren’t seeing any young birds and not many up north. Bummer Hazel is ready and Finn wants some ducks .

Just got back from my annual 3 day fishing trip to my brother's cabin.  My dad, brother, nephew and I spent Thursday, Friday and Saturday fishing 4 lakes.(Evergreen,  Grace, Plantaganet and Cass.)  Caught lots of sunfish, crappie,  perch and a couple walleye.  Perch on Cass were 10-12 inches. Crappie were mostly 10 to 11. Some 12's.  Sunfish ran 8-9 inches.  Walleye was tough but managed a 14, 15 and 17. My brother and nephew did better than my dad and I. They have much better quality rods and could feel the bites much better, plus they used gulp vs our live bait mostly. They did better using 3 inch gulp than smaller ones as well. I'm definitely investing in a new quality rod. Plus I need to get more confidence on plastic.  Overall a very good trip.

Fall lake has nobody there and yes you have to use portage wheels to get across. At prairie portage you don't cross the border, so you don't have to go through customs. However right next to prairie portage there is a Canadian customs building if you wanted to enter into Canada. I don't know anything about it other than it is there.

Grouse season is right around the corner, my Italian 20-gauge SxS sidelock is still available for trade. 25" barrels, ejectors, single selective trigger, great early season grouse thumper, and in excellent condition for a fifty-year-old gun.   Jim

I was thinking of the fall lake portage,  isn't there someone there too?    Or is it just portage wheels to get boat across? And if you go at prairie portage, isn't that a border crossing, so customs and all that?   I love Quetico BTW
