I was out most of the day yesterday and never measured the ice but there where plenty of people driving on the lake. I even saw a guy out there a 1 ton dodge pulling a wheel house. Hope this helps you out.

Was out on Briggs and Julia the past two days. Briggs I found anywhere from 11-13 inches and Julia was a 11-12.5 everywhere I went.

Thank you! I drove out there today and got pretty excited when I saw the large wheel houses and trucks on the us. I drilled a few holes and found about 11 - 13 inches. I know ice is strong but I am going to wait it out another week or so. I was shocked to see the number of trucks and large wheel houses out there with only a foot of ice!

Who would a guy call to comment on the status of the road right out front of the access on briggs... anybody else try turning into the landing from the street only to slide almost into the median? or the guy who went "out" the "enter" side to get in front of me leaving the lake and watching him slide into the neigboring yard (he missed that guy's mail box by inches... it took him changing into 4x4 LOW for him to get back on the road and there is not ditch there! just about a foot of snow. With this warmer weather they could make some salt or sand go a long way to getting rid of the problem...

You could try contacting the Briggs Chain of Lakes Association. They have a website online if you just search them on Google. They have contact information there. I'm not sure if they would help but it would be worth the email.

I wondered the same thing so I drove out there an hour ago. Ice looks weird but looks safe. I saw a few trucks on the ice and I watched a Tahoe drive out with no trouble. Going to put the wheele house out tomorrow after the kids hockey. Anyone that's been out there today, how thick is the ice???

I was out on Elk Lake (just down the road from Briggs) yesterday. There were a lot of vehicles out and some big wheel houses. Where I measured, it was about 16". You could hear some cracking when other vehicle drove by. At times I heard some cracking/popping when I was driving (I have a 4 door full size truck), but I'm guessing most of that was from driving over a patch of snow or ice that had waffled some from the rain.

Be safe, good luck!

I've noticed this at quite a few launches. I think they hold off on salt near the lake because they don't want it being dragged out, melting the ice right out from the launch.

Any update on fishing at Briggs? Looking to bring the house back out and just wondering how the bite has been?

Thanks!

I went out to the deepest spot on the lake last night for a couple hours. I ended up getting two small eyes and 1 crappie. I fished the break line.

Fished this afternoon and managed to catch a few crappies. Stayed away from the crowds and marked lots of fish and had a bunch follow but only a few takers. Used minnow heads, waxies, larvae, and plastics. Followed all but the bites came on minnow heads. First time on the ice out there and was not expecting to see that many houses.

Lots of ice and vehicles cruising everywhere but the ice sure was popping when a truck was nearby.

It's one of the more popular systems in the area wink People flock to theese lakes in the winter months weather the bite is good or bad.

lots of houses and no one in most of them on friday night anyway. Maybe most of these people leave their houses between trips...

What I really wanna know is:   How’d get that lattice to curve like that?  Bomb diggity!

Fish Newton lake is great for walleyes. Everyone goes to basswood and forgets about newton. The late fall pike bite in pipestone is amazing and it’s a great time to catch the big walleyes are up there feeding too.

It would cost you 830 bucks to watch every game this NFL season under multiple platforms.   I don't have peacock or espn+ or whatever they want me to have, so I'll just have to relent on being able to watch a few games.  I refuse to cave in to their demands just to watch the Packers play the Eagles in Brazil.  I think last year peacock had the exclusive rights to the Miami/KC playoff game too.  I'm sure that will occur again in January.

Well it's a win, but it wasn't to Purdy with all the turn overs and penalties!

Oop, must be another Vikings game.  So far it's been a Prudy game, Viks!  😁

Another prediction.   Under the cloud of "Woke Inclusion" Just like the Mn state flag and the Mn Twins, the Vikings name will be going away in a few years! Their already making them look like Snow flakes!  We can't have the uniforms of angry Norwegian people!  Sounds funny but. Wait for it! 😒

Just sayen, not all the loyal old fans, can pay for the NFL viewing package!

New frontiers.  Expand the market; make more money.  Despite some PR moments, they’re not in it for charity.   BUT, they might want to take a moment and see how that worked out for NASCAR.  Not that having to buy premium channels to watch races was the only problem but it sure helped kill the fever for a lot of people.

Get ready. Any bets in a few years the average Joe NFL fans aren't going to be able to watch their local teams, unless it's pay for view!  Sounds like their greasing the wheels now.  There are 5 international games this year! ☹️ "The NFL will play a regular season game in Madrid, Spain in 2025, as the NFL prioritizes global growth and expands the International Games to new cities and markets around the world."
