It should do good. The only ones close are Princeton and Harris. We used to have one in town and a couple gas stations that carried minnows but now we have to travel.

ya I was born and raised here just trying to get some thoughts I have a location in mind. I ice fish every week and hate having to drive so far to get bait and my dad lives here also and he says the same thing.

The gas station off of 65 and Main St. was the last place I know of that had a decent selection and they closed down (the place was always crowded with people buying bait). I think either a Cambridge or Isanti location would do well

Funny how I'd always walk into the Sport Spot just for bait and end up walking out with bait and more tackle half an hour later lol.

I moved back to the cities last year and always wished there was a good shop in Cambridge. I used to stop by the gas station on 65 and Main to pick up waxies but whenever I needed tackle I'd have to drive down to Blaine or Rogers to get what I wanted.

I still love to fish a couple lakes up there, so if you get something up and running, let us know, you have at least one customer here!

Yeah, I liked that place too. The HWY 65 bypass killed them though.

Make it a convenient place to stop and I think you'd have a good chance. You'll want to catch that Hwy 65 traffic. Isanti might be a better option since it's an easier area to stop in my opinion. Wherever it is, the east side of 65 would be best to make it an easy stop for the north bound traffic. With that being said, there's a vacant small strip mall on the west side just north of Isanti that could use a good tenant. You might be able to swing a good lease deal there. I just don't remember if there's a median crossing at that location.

Good luck!

PLEASE DO!!!!!!

I have to drive to Fish Lake Bait or Northwoods just to get live bait in the morning.

It is an extra 45 min to an hour for me just to get live bait.

Most times I go without since it is such a pain.

Stock darkhouse spearing decoys (live and fake) and you will have my business.

The sad truth is; your not gonna get rich running a bait store only though.

well my location would be in cambridge. The issue is over head for me most things is great locations is so expensive and could never make a go of it. I currently own another business so I would be able to opperate both businesses out of this building. It will have a gas propane food everything once things get moving. Soon as I can lock down this buiding and financing U guys will be the first to know.

The one thing that could hurt you is when they get Fleet Farm done.

I would assume they won't have bait but there prices are tough to beat on tackle and things.

well I will have more stuff to keep me in business. I dont think that fleet farm sells minnows but not sure hope that the other things and the small town bait shop can stay afloat but who knows I gotta try right see how it goes smile

I"ll buy from you, if your open late enough. Im a night shift guy so my sudden decision fishing takes place at late. I fish alot of sunrise bites because im sleeping till 7 pm alot. I usualy got nowhere to get bait that late or early enough for sunrise.

Definetely another customer here. My closest is Rush Point and sometimes I like to fish in the other direction. The old gas station in Grandy might be available, but sounds like you're set on Cambridge. probably a better choice anyway.

I'm not home often enough to fish as much as I would like. One reason is I have to drive 30 minute round trip to get any decent bait. If there were a bait shop in Cambridge again I would fish alot more.

If you are looking at the old gas station on the south end of town that would be a great spot with the stop lights there. I too would love to have a bait shop here in town. I have often thought of opening one here but I do not have the means to do so. Good luck to ya, I would buy from ya.

I have to ask. Were is the Fleet Farm going up at? First I have heard of this. The small bait shop should hold up if there cutomer service is good. Treat the customer good, have what they need when they get there and they will come back.

FF has bought the Lowe's building in Cambridge, directly across Highway 95 from Menards. Hope that bait shop opens by spring!!!

ff has not finalized the sale of lowes as of yet they want more space and cant get it from city yet. heard they are as far out as 2014 to open but that's just talk around the coffee table so take it for what it is.

As far as the bait shop things r falling into play but will take time.

My goal is to be open for fishing opener.

I read in the isanti county news that FF bought the lowes building and they are going to purchase land just east of the Lowes building and they are going to put in and new gas station and car wash

I was driving through Cambridge yesterday and saw that Polzin Recycle Center had a sign up stating they had live bait. I called out there and they currently have crappie minnows, flatheads, suckers, waxies and larva for sale. I haven't been out there yet but their hours are Tuesday-Friday 9-4, Saturday 8 to noon. The are located on the North side of Hwy 95 just to the east of the railroad tracks. If their is enought demand for the bait they will be adjusting their hours I believe.

It's nice to finally be able to by minnows again in Cambridge.

The last I read about Fleet Farm in the paper was that it is going in the old Lowes building. They are supposed to be putting in a gas station / car wash across the road and getting 5 acres from the city behind the building. Things are supposed to start in the spring. It also said that this is not going to be a full size Fleet Farm because of space.

I would like to see a bait store in town and I would support it as long as it was not a hassle to get to. If it is not at a set of lights on 65, it should be on the east side of the road for ease of north bound traffic. Walmart has such a small selection of fishing line that it gets sold at peak times of the year and not re-stocked. I wind up hitting GM on my home from work in Fridley. I would much rather support a local store.

Dude, I already trolled that spot, nothing but slimmers!  😄 Glad I saved money by stopping smoking a while ago. It's free most of the summer now! Been calm and yellow out for days! 🤧

Bet you would enjoy a nice paddle down the Cahulawassee River, too then. 😏

Talked to my neighbor is getting ready for a trip via fall lake.    They use small boats with like 10 to 25 hp outboards and portage wheels.   There are two portages to get into pipestone bay, with the second one being over a hill.   From pipestone they can go around to Jackfish? bay,   There is a big sign to warn about where the no motors area is.

On the South End... The walleye and sauger bite continues to be very good with anglers enjoying consistent action.  As we transition into fall, fish are being found at various depths, but 25 - 32 feet of water has been consistent. Jigging continues to pick up as the waters cool.  Water temps this week are down to 64.  Top jig colors this week include gold, orange, chartreuse, and pink.  For some anglers, big numbers caught this week jigging with frozen emerald shiners on the lake.   Some anglers are jigging on or adjacent to structure.  Others are finding schools of walleyes and saugers out over deep mud.  Using sonar to find fish is helpful.     Spinners and trolling crankbaits continue to produce fish as well.  This is a transition time where multiple presentations are working.  As the season progresses, jigging will take over as the top technique.     For those pulling spinners, gold, pink, orange, glow red, or glow white has been successful. Adjust your weights to 2 - 3 ounces to match the depth and speed you are drifting / trolling. Trolling crankbaits is still producing nice walleyes.  Some goto colors are gold, chrome / blue, pink UV firetiger, and chartreuse.     More and more walleyes are showing up along the south shore.  It seems things are gravitating towards fall patterns where good numbers of the fish are both chasing shiners and moving closer to shorelines.  The bite has been excellent and is really shaping up nicely for the fall jig bite both on the lake and in the Rainy River. On the Rainy River... A variety of species continue to be caught on the Rainy River.  Nice current flow is providing fall anglers some optimism for this year's fall shiner and walleye run being a banner year.  Some reports of nice walleyes being caught in the river already this week.   There are reports of shiners in the river all the way up to Birchdale.  Things seem to be setting up nice for a great fall on the river.  Mother Nature will have the final say of course. Sturgeon fishing is picking up with cooling waters.  Anglers anchor up and use a combination of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig with a flat no roll sinker.     Find a hole in the river or simply mark these big fish in an area, anchor up and soak some crawlers! Up at the NW Angle... Walleye fishing up at the NW Angle remains really good. Fish are being found in many areas.  Structure, neck down areas as well as on the flats.   Some good fish are still holding in the deep mud east and northeast of Little Oak Island in the mud.  Areas around Four Blocks, and north of Garden Island producing fish as well.    As on the south end, jigging, spinners / crawlers and trolling crankbaits are all producing walleyes.   Smallmouth bass, pike and muskies are also being caught, both by unsuspecting walleye anglers and when targeted.  As the waters cool, crappies and jumbo perch are also showing up nicely for anglers.
