Heading up to Lutsen on MLK weekend so the wife and kids can ski. Thinking about bringing my portable but I have no idea where to fish. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

not much for crappies up there but lots of walleyes lakes. Caribou, crescent, and tait. Tait has some nice perch in it as well. Caribou has some crappies but not many but has some good walleyes. If you are up there during winter trout season I would try for them one day.

Thanks, monstermoose. Since I've never fished these lakes, can you point me in the right direction on where to fish on Caribou or Tait. Also, is there a bait store nearby or should I get bait before I head out of the cities? Thanks.

You can get minnows at the holiday in tofte (about 20 miles before you get to lutsen). I'd buy euro's before heading up there though.

I don't know if the road is plowed, but christine lake has alot of sunnies and perch, and could be good for pike with tip ups. White pine is next to it, and has good perch and walleye. The road turn off is just north of caribou lake on the caribou trail, right at about where it turns from black top to dirt.

Caribou would be the easiest and closest to access. The walleyes usually run pretty small. I've never really heard of much winter success there though frown

I don't get up there this time of year, but I would guess that wilson and crooked might be worth checking out. there are some good lakes up the grade but from what i hear they don't plow up to four mile or toohey (four mile is my favorite lake in the summer).
