Gull Lake Ice-Heads Up!

Recommended Posts

I'm way out past the hole in front of Ernie's. It's been quiet so I started snooping down the bar some for a better spot. My house is on between 12-14 inches of good ice and I have been driving out. When snooping about 30 yards from my house the snow was a little deeper(4-6 inches)and the ice was too bad for checking depth with the locator so I started drilling holes. I found only 6 or 7 inches of ice under the snow! First time I've seen that extreeme of a difference but I was carefull to follow my tire tracks back in. This is just a word of caution for everyone. It was 15 below that morning so I'm sure the ice is building but be carefull when driving to stay where you can see the ice and avoid snow spots.

How much ice is on Hole in the Day Bay? How about Round? Enough for a 1/2 ton truck and an 18 foot wheelhouse?

Yeah, that area out in front of Ernies can do some crazy things. I try to avoid fishing around there. Every year it seems like a truck or fish house will break through down there. Kind of stinks because it is an area with quite a few decent spots and easy access. Glad you made it safely.

I know that there are plenty of houses out there...none like our though! I will say though that I was over past Garrison Friday and Sat on WOW!!! 1 ton trucks and 20' houses were out there! I don't know what the ice condidtions were there, but apparently they are finding some good ice there. I also heard from a good source they caught over 30 fish on fri and sat, but only 3 were keepable and 2 small the rest were big fish, but all in the slot. I am thinking that would be a fun trip also! Especially when a guy can catch a few piggies.

That would be fun Rob. I ran out to Gull on Sat and punched a bunch of holes to check depth on Hole in the Day. I found 12-13 inches in all places. Still a little dicey for houses our size. I'll wait another week. I'd rather be safe than sorry!

The same thing we found last weekend! We just drug out a portable and walked out...the whole time we had trucks racing by at unrealistic speeds with little ice. We decided since we haven't seen the ice increase more than an inch in over a week that we are headed up to Red on the 18th and see what the hooplah is all about. Maybe by then we will have 16" on Gull and I will feel a little more comfortable out there. Hey empty your mssg box and I will let ya know what we found while out there last weekend.

What I really wanna know is:   How’d get that lattice to curve like that?  Bomb diggity!

Fish Newton lake is great for walleyes. Everyone goes to basswood and forgets about newton. The late fall pike bite in pipestone is amazing and it’s a great time to catch the big walleyes are up there feeding too.

It would cost you 830 bucks to watch every game this NFL season under multiple platforms.   I don't have peacock or espn+ or whatever they want me to have, so I'll just have to relent on being able to watch a few games.  I refuse to cave in to their demands just to watch the Packers play the Eagles in Brazil.  I think last year peacock had the exclusive rights to the Miami/KC playoff game too.  I'm sure that will occur again in January.

Well it's a win, but it wasn't to Purdy with all the turn overs and penalties!

Oop, must be another Vikings game.  So far it's been a Prudy game, Viks!  😁

Another prediction.   Under the cloud of "Woke Inclusion" Just like the Mn state flag and the Mn Twins, the Vikings name will be going away in a few years! Their already making them look like Snow flakes!  We can't have the uniforms of angry Norwegian people!  Sounds funny but. Wait for it! 😒

New frontiers.  Expand the market; make more money.  Despite some PR moments, they’re not in it for charity.   BUT, they might want to take a moment and see how that worked out for NASCAR.  Not that having to buy premium channels to watch races was the only problem but it sure helped kill the fever for a lot of people.

Get ready. Any bets in a few years the average Joe NFL fans aren't going to be able to watch their local teams, unless it's pay for view!  Sounds like their greasing the wheels now.  There are 5 international games this year! ☹️ "The NFL will play a regular season game in Madrid, Spain in 2025, as the NFL prioritizes global growth and expands the International Games to new cities and markets around the world."
