River Pro boats- Hi Pro vs Lo Pro

HawgTide

Question

Can any of you give the pros and cons of these two boats? I'm trying to decide which type I should go with. I like the way the lo pro looks, more like a traditional bass boat.

Ah yes the lo pro has my vote to. But I'm a bass guy like you. However the more popular is the hi pro. I think the hi pro is safer to if you have kids or clumbsy like me.

There's guys on here with better info (Like Kevin Turner & Dennis Steele) but my .02 won't hurt.

I've fished each model once as Dennis' guest and my take was that the LoPro had more storage in the deck & cut the chop a little better on plane. The HiPro's higher sides with built-in shelf compartments are great for quickly getting at frequent-use items and offer a safer ride for kids-n-such. The live well in the HiPro is simply massive! If I could afford one I would get the HiPro.

From the pictures I've seen, the Hi Pro has one pedestal seat in the front. Am I missing something? Looks to me that the back person would not be as comfortable casting for bass.

Quite true - the back seat in the HiPro is actually the engine cover, and is much better suited for laying back, looking at the stars, and watching for the rod-tip to twitch grin.gif

Thats a tough choice!HiPro vs. Low Pro.I was lucky enought to get to drive both rigs and liked them both.matter of fact the only reason I chose the HiPro over the LowPro was for the comfort and safety of clients. Its really tough to fall out of a HiPro!Being a catman first,I also do a little more "sit down" type fishing than casting. However I do a little pitching jigs and throwing spinner baits for bass or walleye too.I fish out of the back of my HiPro 99% of the time and just cast from standing on the motor compartment. You can see a country mile from that "nose bleed" vantage point, and can pick out fish and structure a quite well. Its almost like fishing from the poleing platform on a flats boat.
The Low Pro has a huge rear deck. Its 8 foot long and 92" wide.I believe both boats have the same size front deck which is also very roomy.Bigger than most deep vee type boats but a little smaller that your big Ranger bass rigs that seem to be all deck.
I think the HiPro has a smaller price tag than the Low Pro,but has every bit as much performance unless you go with the 250Merc Sport Jet that is offered on the LowPro.
Tough choice indeed, they are simply both awsome boats!

Hey Guys, I'm in So Dakota and The Hotel I'm at won't let me log on. So I came to Radio Shack to check my messages...
The LoPro by far is the better casting boat.
The HiPro is great for live bait'n and cat fish'n.
My cell is 314 378 2685 or I'll be in Moticello Monday if anyone would like a demo.

Change of plans. I'm in Souix City with truck problems (Duramax won't run over 1800 rpm). I won't be in Monticello today. I'll keep you posted.....

This is what the Red River North of Fargo looks like right now. If you don't have a River Pro, Ah.......don't go.
(Photo is of Dennis Flom, "Catch Big Cats Guide Service".)

As far as the section I plan to have the "Frog Stomp" on. I selected it because it is deeper, and more consistent, far safer for prop rigs right now. So guys whom may be bringing propped rigs, you have far less worry there.

For them River Pro runners, go wherever you wish and fish.

Limped home to St Louis. Dealers in Souix City didn't have module in stock to fix my truck. (BTW I have almost 90K on the Duramax and a little hick-up can be expected).
I sold my Demo LoPro to Gary at River Terrace Park and plan to head up this weekend to deliver it. Hawgtide lets try to hook up.
BBQ...I do plan to make it up there, just don't know when. Thanks Ed, Dennis Steele, And Dennis Flom...Do be carefull that water looks real low.

Dennis Flom has some seriously skinny water up by his place right now, that is him in the photo above by the way.

Even in years half as low as this his section off the Red and up into the Sheyenne River is a no-go for most prop rigs. This past week is a real challenge and definitely a no-go for props.

So tell me, does he look like he loves that new River Pro Hi Pro, or what? grin.gif

Ya Kevin I gots ta be careful, I'm still running a stump chopper.

Ya know what really worries me Eh?

If the Red gets any lower, I may just have to go fish...."GULP".....lakes...."Oh the shame"! frown.gif

Kevin, What happen to your truck? I have 2002 Duramax with 65000 miles on it and need to know what to look out for. They are a great truck.

Hawkeye, Truck runs great, then it acts like it is starving for fuel and won't run above 1800 rpms.

OK....Picked up the Duramax. I'm gonna give her another try. I got my old Chevy PU on stand by, fueled and ready to roll if needed. I figure since this is a equipment forum I can keep you posted on my vehicle exploits. The Duramax has been a excellent truck 'till this chapter, and those I've spoken to haven't had any real problems to discuss.
I hope to be in Monticello on Monday....

Oh Yeah..Fiskynut, I have some ideas on a MidPro. A combination HiPro & LoPro. Lopro front casting deck and dual consoles with Hipro rear configuration and 5" lower side height than the HiPro. Also, I'm working with pro river guides Dave Genz and Pete Mlinar on a 1872 HiPro Guide Series.Problem has been finding the time to build the prototypes.

I had a friend who had a like problem with his. It turned out to be some kinda sensor that cut back the fuel and subsequently the RPM's. They tried the chip first, and that was not the issue. It could have been a combo of the two, they were not sure? After they changed the sensor it perked back up.

Kevin I had a couple of days in the Hi-Pro, man that is the real deal for sure. We ran water nobody could run now. Very sweet!

Yup...I definitely need one of them...Yup-Yup!

well I hope to see one of your boats, they look like the shizznit man. Unfortunately my wifes return to college this fall has cleaned out any money I had saved up for a down payment on a new boat.
Gotta love my Dodge Ram though, 32K and It hasnt let me down.
Wish I could have made it down to the frog stomp, but I was workin.

Those boats are amazing... Had a chance to ride with Dennis in his Hi Pro and it was truely amazing. We went through some rapids at full tilt that could have only been about 6" of water, without bumping... We were able to fish water that others can't get to, which is a major bonus...

Flushed 3 pheasants today with Hazel but they were flushing 50 yards a head of her. Then we went by some little berries that looked black and hazels tail started going a brown bird gets up I thought hen then the bird banked and it was a grouse. It was good to get her out in the woods. I seen a few pheasants in picked corn fields.

Walked today and yesterday, flushed 9, shot at two and got two. Hopefully next year I'll have a dog to hunt with. Still warm up here, skim of ice on ponds. Weather has been nice. Hopefully walk a bit more the next few weeks. Been pretty cautious walking for birds to not interfere with deer hunters. There sure are not the deer hunters there used to be

On the South Shore...  The focus for many this week is the ongoing deer hunting season which is a big tradition in these parts, even for avid walleye anglers.  There were some that either already harvested their deer or are more into catching fall walleyes than hunting.     Those that are fishing are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and excellent walleye and sauger bite that is happening across the lake.  Cold weather is in the forecast in the upcoming days and weeks so that is also getting many excited. The best depths on the south end of LOW are 22-28 feet of water.     Vertical jigging with frozen emerald shiners is catching most of the walleyes, saugers and jumbo perch.  Depending upon where on the lake you are fishing, some slots and big trophies are in the mix as well, but most reports are talking about good numbers of eaters.    Jumbo perch are coming in good numbers this fall which will serve ice anglers well.  Watch out for an occasional pike or even lake sturgeon mixed in with the walleyes.      There are good numbers of walleyes and saugers across the south shore which is setting up nicely for early ice.   On the Rainy River...  There continues to be good numbers of shiners in the river, and consequently, there are good walleyes in the river as well.     Walleyes along with saugers, pike and some sturgeon are coming in up and down the river.  Most walleyes are being caught in 10-25 feet of water in various stretches of the river.   Jigging with live or frozen emerald shiners is the key. Some anglers are also still slow trolling crankbaits upstream to cover more ground and find fish. Both methods are producing solid results. Sturgeon fishing remains strong.  The catch-and-release sturgeon fishing is open into the spring when it changes to the "keep season" on April 24th. Up at the NW Angle...  As temps are getting colder, most are in the woods hunting and not fall fishing, however, for those who bundle up, fishing continues to be excellent.     A nice mixed bag with walleyes, saugers, perch, pike and crappies being caught. Very good muskie fishing with the colder water temps and shorter days.  Some big fish and some good numbers are being caught amongst the islands.  Both casting and trolling is getting it done.

I hunt in the rifle zone so I don't have a need to use a shotgun to hunt deer, but I would be looking at this if there was ever a need to.   There could be state legislation introduced next summer that eliminates the shotgun zone completely.  It has bipartisan support.  Wisconsin removed theirs years ago and MN is usually later to follow.  They've tried to pass it more than once and it came up just short both times.  Probably just a matter of time.

      Screw that, here's whatch need!  😆   Power-Shok Rifled Slug 10 Gauge 766 Grain Grain Weight: 766 Shotshell Length: 3-1/2in / 89mm Muzzle Velocity: 1280
    • Wanderer
20 ga has become a real popular deer round in the last 5 or so years.  The rifled barrels are zinging those sabot slugs with rifle like accuracy out to 100 yards easily.  Some go so far as dialing in for a 200 yard shot but really, by 150 they’re falling off pretty low.   I have a single shot Ultraslug in 20 ga that shoots really well at 100 yards.  Most everyone I know that has bought a slug gun lately has gotten the Savage 220 in 20ga.  Problem can be finding the shells you want.
    • leech~~
My son always bugs me about getting a nice light over-under 20ga for grouse hunting.  I say Heck no, I'm getting a 3 1/2" 10ga so I can put as much lead in the air that I can!!     So, I'm keeping my 12ga.
    • 11-87
That’s almost exactly what I was thinking.  Have slug barrels for both   One for turkey and one for deer.      I have a 20ga mosseberg as well. (Combo came with the scope but never used.   I always liked the 12 better
    • leech~~
Wanderer is right on the money and covered it well.  I was wondering too if you had a slug barrel for one of your guns?  If so you could make that your slug gun with a scope, and the other your turkey gun with the Red dot.  As you can afford it.
