Spearing while panfishing

I am just curious if any of you know of any good lakes to jig for panfish while spearing. I used to go to the third flowage on Winnie where you can catch perch, sunnies, crappies, through the spear hole during the day while waiting for pike but I hear it is pretty snowed in this year and water clarity is pretty spotty. Has anybody been up there to try it recently? Otherwise any other similar lakes that people have been to up North? Thanks for any input.

Yes Ndave, you can. They changed the law a few years ago. You may have one rod in the house with you and I think they even allow you to put out one tip-up as well. (Not both though)

Not sure of any specific lakes to try it on. I would say just hunt for some gills/shallow crapps and once you find them there should be pike near by. We caught a couple of pike the other day fishing crappies in 20 feet. They will be where the food is.

I was just wondering this same thing. I was wondering for people that spear a lot if they see lots of panfish. I don't spear but find sight fishing very fun.

Wow, that's great. We thought we had to do either or, but not both at the same time. I'll let the kid run the spear and I'll bring my snoopy rod. grin

Any lake that you can spear on has the potential to be good for jigging panfish, but I know some old timers that have been spearing for 40 plus years and have never seen panfish.

I have been seeing many panfish and some really big bass this season. I do not fish for them though I just watch and learn from those fish, like what they do when pike come in , how they feed and act towards different decoys and what colors attract them. from major things to the most subtle things as I think it helps me be a better fisherman.

I think panfishing helps attract pike.

2 years ago brought a buddy with me spearing he panfished the entire time he was reeling a small sunny in but didnt have his drag set so it kept kickng below the ice he finally got it out and a pike showed up right under the ice

They will take an easy meal like that any day of the week. I had a walleye hit a perch that I shook off half way up to the hole. the eye just came in flared its gills, ate the perch and was gone in 4 seconds. What a show that was. cool

When did they open Cass to spearing? Does that have pretty good shallow panfish populations? Thanks all.

What I really wanna know is:   How’d get that lattice to curve like that?  Bomb diggity!

Fish Newton lake is great for walleyes. Everyone goes to basswood and forgets about newton. The late fall pike bite in pipestone is amazing and it’s a great time to catch the big walleyes are up there feeding too.

It would cost you 830 bucks to watch every game this NFL season under multiple platforms.   I don't have peacock or espn+ or whatever they want me to have, so I'll just have to relent on being able to watch a few games.  I refuse to cave in to their demands just to watch the Packers play the Eagles in Brazil.  I think last year peacock had the exclusive rights to the Miami/KC playoff game too.  I'm sure that will occur again in January.

Well it's a win, but it wasn't to Purdy with all the turn overs and penalties!

Oop, must be another Vikings game.  So far it's been a Prudy game, Viks!  😁

Another prediction.   Under the cloud of "Woke Inclusion" Just like the Mn state flag and the Mn Twins, the Vikings name will be going away in a few years! Their already making them look like Snow flakes!  We can't have the uniforms of angry Norwegian people!  Sounds funny but. Wait for it! 😒

New frontiers.  Expand the market; make more money.  Despite some PR moments, they’re not in it for charity.   BUT, they might want to take a moment and see how that worked out for NASCAR.  Not that having to buy premium channels to watch races was the only problem but it sure helped kill the fever for a lot of people.

Get ready. Any bets in a few years the average Joe NFL fans aren't going to be able to watch their local teams, unless it's pay for view!  Sounds like their greasing the wheels now.  There are 5 international games this year! ☹️ "The NFL will play a regular season game in Madrid, Spain in 2025, as the NFL prioritizes global growth and expands the International Games to new cities and markets around the world."
