Brand new gas auger break-in procedure before first use?

JoeKer

Question

Just bought my first brand new in box 2hp two-cycle engine gas auger, wonder if theres a special engine break-in prodecure before using it for the first time? If so, what is it please. Check for leaks, loose screws, etc. any other suggestions for a 1st timer like me? What type of gas 91 non-oxy, any place near Loretto MN have it/closest place? Any and all helpful tips for a first time gas auger owner/operator appreciated! Want to start off on the right foot. Thanks in advance, JoeKer.

Without knowing anything other than the motor is new, here is what I would recommend. First, read the owners manual, you can find lots of good information in those pages. Next, use the recommended oil and mixture ratio. Save the 100:1 synthetic miracle mix for later if you intend on trying that one. For fuel, use any pump gas and run it through the motor. The 91 non-oxy fuel is handy for storage but not necessary if you use it up within a month or so. Go fishing and have fun using it and it will break in on it's own.

Normally a break in procedure has you run the motor at idle for a while, then operate normally with short bursts of full throttle to seat moving parts. On a ice auger motor, that pretty much describes normal operation, so have at it!

I add a little more oil to the first tank of gas and run it. I also use synthetic from the get go. When they have a big fishing contest they pull new ones out of the box put gas in it and drill 1000 holes usually without any problems. If you read anything about augers on here most problems occur while sitting over the summer.

Best tip I can give you is to use high quality 2stroke oil.

ALSO, type of gas is important but the age of the gas plays a bigger part, IE - you bore a lot of holes and use up gas consistently then you will be okay to use any gas. If you let it set probably non-oxygenated is best. Most 50:1 2stroke oil has fuel stabilizers but I wouldn't let it go for a year in the gas can before figuring out what to do with it.

What I really wanna know is:   How’d get that lattice to curve like that?  Bomb diggity!

Fish Newton lake is great for walleyes. Everyone goes to basswood and forgets about newton. The late fall pike bite in pipestone is amazing and it’s a great time to catch the big walleyes are up there feeding too.

It would cost you 830 bucks to watch every game this NFL season under multiple platforms.   I don't have peacock or espn+ or whatever they want me to have, so I'll just have to relent on being able to watch a few games.  I refuse to cave in to their demands just to watch the Packers play the Eagles in Brazil.  I think last year peacock had the exclusive rights to the Miami/KC playoff game too.  I'm sure that will occur again in January.

Well it's a win, but it wasn't to Purdy with all the turn overs and penalties!

Another prediction.   Under the cloud of "Woke Inclusion" Just like the Mn state flag and the Mn Twins, the Vikings name will be going away in a few years! Their already making them look like Snow flakes!  We can't have the uniforms of angry Norwegian people!  Sounds funny but. Wait for it! 😒

New frontiers.  Expand the market; make more money.  Despite some PR moments, they’re not in it for charity.   BUT, they might want to take a moment and see how that worked out for NASCAR.  Not that having to buy premium channels to watch races was the only problem but it sure helped kill the fever for a lot of people.

Get ready. Any bets in a few years the average Joe NFL fans aren't going to be able to watch their local teams, unless it's pay for view!  Sounds like their greasing the wheels now.  There are 5 international games this year! ☹️ "The NFL will play a regular season game in Madrid, Spain in 2025, as the NFL prioritizes global growth and expands the International Games to new cities and markets around the world."
