Dropped Rod in River

Recommended Posts

Talk about a good day/bad day situation got a great pike (9#8oz) but on a follow on cast i hooked my St. Croix Legend Extreme rod and Quantum reel on the back cast and threw it in the river and watched it sink into the murk. Talk about being angry at myself. Bottom line, if you happen to find a 6"8" Legend extreme with a quantum reel between the Ford Dam and St Anthony Falls lower lock let me know.

I know it is a distant chance but what the heck, hope springs eternal

Uff da, I can commiserate. I lost a nice St Croix rod to what I assume was a catfish a few years back. A kid fishing next to me (I didn't know him) tried to cast and ended up snagging some branches right above me. I set the rod down for one second, tried to help him get untangled, and voila, away flies the fishing rod. Now I refuse to help anyone unless it's a life-threatening situation and I'm using one of my crappy rods.

You know, if I lost it to a fish I don't think I would feel as bad, I was stupid enough to just throw it in the water. I guess the gods did not want me to own that rod, I did the same thing the night before but lucked out when the frog hooks caught on the jig that was rigged.

Sorry to hear that if the water keeps dropping you migt be able to dive for it current pending, i have found some nice lures when the water really drops

That's actually a great idea, depending on your swimming ability, current, depth, etc. I actually went out diving for mine, but it was long gone.

I am pretty sure it is on its way to a painful death at the Ford dam. I dropped it right in the fastest current on that strech of the river, right where the lower St Anthony Falls current flows. It moved about 3 or 4 feet before it sunk out of view.

I am a pretty good swimmer, in fact I used to be a Navy diver in a past life and I don't think I would try to dive for it.
