Anybody been out hunting muskys? See a lot of boats with guys throwing baits but never see any reports on how the fishing has been. Would anyone like to chime in and give a report.

I have heard from a few different reliable sources that the fishing is good on the west end, weeds and shallow rocks. Spring Bay resort reported 8 fish over 50 last week just from their resort guests. And I have a buddy up there now and he alone has caught 3 over 50, again all on the far west side. The usual fare, Dawgs during the day and Cowgirls at night he said. I imagine it will be quite busy up there this weekend with the full moon. East side I haven't heard the good reports from that I have on the west, and they are having a 50 boat tournament out of the casino, so that side will be busy also. Don't let it stop you from going, you never know, but I may just avoid the crowds this wkend and try it next instead.

First of all I want to say that I am not a musky fisherman but last weekend I decided to have my 11 year old son go with me on a guided 4 hour trip on the east end with a guy named Andrew Judnick & I didn't know what to expect but there was a 47" & a 48" put in the boat. So we came back home & told some friends who went with him this weekend who just called & caught 3 yesterday on a full day trip in completely different spots where we were. So if a novice like me caught one I would say the bite is very good & this guy can flat out find fish

We are very fortunate to have some great walleye reports with Cliff, Casey, Mark and Ace. However we almost never have anyone comment on Muskie fishing in the forum. I suppose Muskie fishermen are more tightly lipped?

I haven’t seen nearly as many Muskie fishermen on the water in the last month so I’m going to assume the bite has been slow lately. I haven’t been Muskie fishing the last 2-3 weeks but I’ve caught my limit of walleyes pulling cranks with lead core the last couple weekends. I plan to start hitting the Muskies again this fall. Anyone have ANY Muskie input?

Musky fishen has been very good latly.

Some big fish being caught doing odd ball stuff to make it fun.

We have been fishen lots of weedy areas an doing very well with 4 oz spinnerbaits.

Icky way to fish but its payed off for day time fish. Monster Snot Green behind brass has been a very good choce of color.

As always lots of fish on rocks..but they see so many lures is it any wonder they only like a nite bite munchies run?

shocked....no moon phase needed. So move off these areas a bit, go deeper an you will see what has been seeing the inside of my net.

cool

If you offer up a DD or DDD, heavy spinnerbait or jake you might be surprised.

Custom Patterns in Kidney or Maroon or Chicken Pox have proven tasty to them skis.

grin

Phantom type lures been hot for turning fish an getting them to come out of hidding in shallows. Many mnay follows on these lures then you can fine tune yer offering ..AGAIN.

The cheewers been really tearing the paint off dive an rip type offerings like 10" suicks, 8" reefhawgs an any weagle type stick off wood with hooks. Something about the wild ripping tearing dieing pause that gets them to move that last six inches for a toncile check up.

Cornbeef & cabbage an Burnt Brat an Jonny rotten teeth or Nascar delight patterns all have done well. Had to repaint a few but that is just something to do..when there hot they are simply just killers.

And never forget to have fun, keep moving an go fish something different with someone new to the sport.....sharing is a good thing.

C ya.

crazy

One of my long time secrets is when you get a nice pretty lil one you give them a nice lil belly rub an a big smooch before release. This way they know that they are welcome anytime in yer boat an also seem to spread the word to older kin an other fishy friends.

"Hey peeps, that Musky T an his Golden Boyz is cool x 3 & so laid back fishen kats I never felt a thing and his hands is so soft an warm........DO jump on his stuff when it goes by an go meet them"

grin

Plus when they get big an mean they always want to drop in for a visit an a year book photo!

cool

Life is a fun ride....I hope yer all getting the most out of yer tickets.

Keep on rocken!

Musky T.

Tommy,

You just gave away my weapon of choice this year. Been noticing the last few years that the fish are tired of playing with the big bladed stuff. Wife and I have been downsized all year and have been doing very well. Been throwing some of the old school stuff that the fish haven't seen for years. Gotta get away from the norm. It's ok to be different ....right?

Oh yeah...my point before reading the GPS of the island post?

Thursday afternoon 3 to 8 pm could not get 12 different fish to close the last six inches on three different places.

I found two very active packs a big fish prowling boulders an coming in hot a long way for wounded offerings we were buzzing an pauszing an ripping high low an dead fall..

Fished with Sir Travis Dr. Rip of Iowa an his famous wife Jen of hollywood.

He could not beleive fish I had doing power runs at offering to boat in narrows mid lake by Grannys gap, Sid place, Marys Neckdowns an Homer J rocks. Truth be told he did raise 3 or 12 and Jen got two big pike diddling round in mid boat with spoons but I was smoking as I been know to do at times ...but nothing to show but some good times.

Be fun to have a hat cam sometimes.

cool

Slow an low in 7 feet ...

Old Burt filled with rocks an a weighted old wooden Demander doing the trick on 9...

Hot Rod, Barfly patterns doing the major load....a red gut old time first run skinny Phantom doing other.

No action on hair or top or anything BIG...but then did not give them attention much..... as I AM GETTIN OLDER!

It wears a guy down faster to it sometimes better to be smarter an tricky..but the last darn SIX inches can be a ^%$# no matter how mush you think you know or who you are or pressure yer under or just having fun as we always always do!!!

Muskies are just mental sometimes.....but its fun trying to figure them out.

Not easy..but its fun to get lucky once in a while.....Naaaaaaaaaaw that is for Amatures.

wink

But that in it self makes it all worth wild.

Best $40 I made all yer.

wink

Did see last last night 7 PM three big fish working over 22 FOW....kind of going round me an the boyz as we fished wallys an bass. Teasing me no doubt.

Fun junk we see an do in life.

CANCER SUCKZ!

Back Friday for a week.

Its time to almost use the net.

Keep on rocken.

Tommy

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st

As I get older it's really not just about sending bullets down range.  Some of it's just the workmanship of the gun and the wow factor. The other two guns I have really wanted which I'll never have now because of their price, is a 8mm Jap Nambu and 9mm German Luger.   Just thought they always looked cool!

I had a guy hit me with a lightly used 1969 BAR, he wanted $1650 with an older Leupold scope. More than I think they are worth, I made an offer, he declined end of story.   You know if you look at the old brochures, a grade II BAR sold for $250 in the late 60s, $1650 would be a good return on your investment.    Why would anybody want a 50 year old gun, they are heavy, have wood stocks, and blued metal.  I guess mainly to keep their gun safes glued to the floor. lol   You can probably buy a stainless rifle that you never have to clean, with a synthetic stock you never have to refinish, is as light as a feather, and for half as much money, perfect.   I'm too old for a youth gun, although I've shrunk enough that it would probably fit. lol   No Ruger 10/44s.   Jim
