Crankbaits

Recommended Posts

What are some of your favorite lures for downrigging or leadcore? No colors, just brand, model and size. I use mostly Rapalas of different models. #5 & 7 Raps and TD's are my favorites. I'm sure most of you experiment with a variety of them to see whats working so just wondering what your favorites are.

I have use lots of different cranks baits it's fun to switch em up and see if it can make a difference. This summer I am going to run Lindy Shadlings for the first time. I just need to get out and see if I am gonna love em.

15 years ago there was a big hub bub from the Lake Erie fishermen about Reef Runners and how great they were. I hated em......until I finally tried em. They are hard to keep running straight but they work really well.

Smithwicks, Bomber A, Walleye Diver and of course Shad Raps are all very good. It is very important to have lots of crankbaits (more than your wife knows about)

Berkley flicker shads work well and cost less than Rapala shad raps. Ive also had real good luck with smaller tail dancers.

I've tried a bunch of stuff and now run strictly Rapala #7 Shad Raps. They usually run straight out of the box and I like having all the lures consistant so I don't have to adjust releases and they stay a consistant depth. I think they do as good as anything. Better on some days, maybe worse on others. I take alot of amateurs and kids out so it just makes it easier to take a variable out. Still have location, depth of water, depth of ball, amount of line behind ball, speed, and color variables and thats enough for me on any given day.

I usaully start out with a couple of Rapala Team Esko's and see how things go, if I have to start switching it up, then I'll move to smaller Reef Runners, Wally Divers, TDD9's and other vairous Rapala's I have in the tackle box.

I've been using deep little rippers for the last couple years cause they have been producing so well. Small fish big fish doesn't matter. (reefrunners)

Twelve ft of mono and 3-4 colors of lead and bang its on.
