I have been told quite a few times that people don't trust PayPal. I have an option of getting an account setup for credit cards through CountryKat Fishing. I am just wondering if I can warrant the extra cost of owning the credit card machine vs. using PayPal. How would you guys rather pay for fishing equipment? The one advantage of using a CC through me is you don't have to give all your personal info. like you do through PayPal and you don't have to do anything over the internet. Just a simple phone call with your CC#

I use PayPal all the time for Ebay auctions.Never had a problem yet, I think they charge a little to much to recieve money though.

I agree. Paypal hasn't let me down yet. I haven't used it a whole lot since Ebay bought them out though.

I have used Paypal for over 150 purchase and never had a problem. I have never received payment through them so I can not say about that side of the transaction. If you were selling something I wanted I would prefer to pay with Paypal. Good Luck!!!

I use Paypal for all my business transactions, very easy, convenient and economical
I also have their debit card and use it all the times for any purchase, just enough to leave some funds on the account.
I never had a problem in past 2 years and thousands of transactions.
I used to have a CC machine and merchants account, better rates, but when you add cost of monthly statement, rent and maintenance of machine, etc. it will cost almost same as Paypal or more. Also consider CC companies will charge higher rates for "non swipe" transactions (where you enter number and not swipe card) since they are considered higher risk, they don't tell you this when they give you the rates, you'll find out later or you have to ask.

Go PayPal and you won't be disappointed.

I think I would prefer to make a phone call and give you a cc# instead of going thru PayPal. Too many things can happen when you are dealing with a third party.

That is exactly what I have been hearing. Even though I asked this same question on about 5 boards today, you are only the second person that has said that.

For me it is actually cheaper to use them.

Regardless if you use Paypal or any credit card company to handle your transactions, you are using a 3rd party.

All Credit/Debit Card transactions require a 3rd party unless you are paying the credit card company directly using your credit/debit card..which is almost non-existant.

they still have to give you their personal information for any credit/debit card transaction just like Paypal.

As for being safe, PayPal is very reliable, safer than using your credit/debit card at any store, and easy to use for anyone. Best of all you can use more payment options.

PayPal is also very user friendly, unlike many credit card transactions and they protect all their users from fraudulent transactions just like any credit card company does other than they do have a limit of $100,000 for Business users accounts.

For Merchants on the Internet, they have improved there as well. To receive money is a little more expensive than some and less expensive than others if you base it on just a transaction basis. If you include the fact that they also will run the shopping cart portion you save money on the whole process as a merchant. If you do enough business you really save money.

All in all, I give PayPal a big thumbs up and have recently begun switching over from our credit card sytem to PayPal.

Safe for users, easy to use, and actually cost effective for merchants who would prefer not paying for a shopping cart and most shopping carts are cumbersome at best.

You don't need to be a PayPal member to use your credit/debit card either.

After being involved in a dispute for a transaction that involved PayPal, I would just add one thing to what everyone else said.

If you are going to be moving large sums of money that would hurt you to lose - and by this I mean more than a few hundred bucks, which is usually the most small proprietors can afford to lose - you may want to look into using an online escrow service.

How this works is simple. You sell a doo-dad to some guy for $1000. He pays the escrow service. You send the product. He receives it. If there's a dispute, you get the item back and he gets his cash back. If there isn't, you get the cash and he gets the item.

Granted, you have to pay a small commission but for most small business owners I would think it would be worth it. If you ever have to initiate a credit card fraud claim it can take forever and foul up your finances in the meantime.

I think the name of the one of the more popular ones is e-escrow. Disclaimer: I've never used it, I'm not an employee, owner, nor do I stand to benefit in any way. Just free advice!
