Spiral wrap/Roberts wrap

Scoot

Question

How many people out there have experience with spiral wraps? Most fisherman won't know what I'm talking about- a spiral wrap is a baitcasting rod that has it's guides go from the top of the rod to the bottom of the rod (easier to see than be explained).
Mostly it's just custom rod makers who make them, but they are becoming very popular with the bass tour and serious big fish folks (tarpon, muskie, striper, etc.)
Who's used them and what do you think?

As you know, I've made a whole bunch of spiral wraps. Response has been quite favorible. The main advantage is extra stability due to a reduction in torque with the majority of guides not on top of the rod blank. You mentioned Roberts wrap... it's also called an acid wrap.
If you get a chance to try one, do it. You'll love it.

I had a client this summer in Alaska who had one called a sidewinder. First time I ever saw one. As he was horsing a king onto the bank it snapped in 2 places at the same time like a .22 shot. I have seen alot of one piece rods become 2 piece, and alot of 2 piece become 3 piece. But that was the first time I ever saw a 1 piece instantly become a 3 piece.

I am eager to get some made Rod, with E-Glass, for super sumo's. Maybe Lamiglass, not sure yet, it depends on the lendth and action.

This winter I have been doing some checking on the Roberts system, and I see it to be the way to go for Cork'n them Sumo Cats.

We will have to chat on this soon. Do you have time to build a couple before Oh.....lets say...Mid May? wink.gif

I know he has time to build one, because I put on my order yesterday! I'm sure he could squize in a couple more in the next few weeks. Give him a shout.
